In reply to: [Simple Twitter Tweets] Error Thrown…OK, I was able to get back in recovery mode to admin status. I disabled this plugin but the error doen’t go away so disabling it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Before changing some code as you suggest, could this still be a problem even if the plugin is disabled?

In reply to: [WP Armour - Honeypot Anti Spam] Level 2 Spam CheckYes, it is active and it is version 1.17 that I downloaded and installed. If these two conditions are met, where is the tab I’d need to access? A supplied image would be helpful.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] No longer playing in Google ChromeApparently, the MP3 audio files needed to be recoded to play correctly because something in Chrome or WordPress changed but it was nothing I did. See https://www.yourvirtualworld.tv/cms/dictionary-thesaurus/

What should happen when you un-install/deactivate the plugin? The user otherwise has no way of knowing or intuiting that this procedure will also apply when they activate/deactivate the plugin and they may perform these operations often.

In reply to: [Quick Chat] Will drag down siteOne apparent improvement was to give all of the different chat rooms the same name in the parameter settings. When each different page had its own chat room, that appeared to be too much for the plugin to handle. For example: [quick-chat height=”300″ room=”default” userlist=”1″ userlist_position=”left” smilies=”1″ send_button=”0″ loggedin_visible=”1″ guests_visible=”1″ avatars=”1″ counter=”1″] Here, each room is named “default”. The site performance, including administration, is still noticably degraded, but at lest I have a chat room. Now, all visitors on the site are in the same chat room. Since it’s not a really busy site, that’s OK.

In reply to: [Quick Chat] Will drag down siteI love this plugin, but darn it, the entire site loads at about 25% of speed compared to when the plugin is not activated. I’m afraid such slow site loading is scaring away lots of potential visitors. I have a separate chat room for each blog entry. Would things speed up if all of the blog entries shared the same default chat room? Is there anything else I can do to optimize Quick Chat so that it doesn’t drag the site to a crawl?
Summing up s2M support reply:
I see! Thank you.
Well, as far as cookies go; they don’t play a huge role in this sort of access. They only allow for continued access once an access link is clicked.
For instance, if I receive the access link to what I paid for via email, upon clicking that link a cookie is set in my browser which allows me to return to that particular Post/Page in the future without needing to be authenticated again. However, should cookies not work for any reason, returning to my email and clicking on the access link again will set the cookies again and again. Thus, it’s the link itself that provides them with access. Cookies are just there to make the user experience a little smoother when possible. That’s so helpful an answer Jason, thank you. What prevents the customer from sharing the email with others thus allowing them access also?
Each access point within s2Member is restricted to X number of unique IP addresses. You can gain control over this by adjusting the setting here in your Dashboard: s2Member ? Restriction Options ? Unique IP Addresses.
So for instance, if I set it to 5 unique IPs and one my customers decides to post the link on Twitter, it’s going to quickly result in everyone being denied access, including the original customer because they did so.That is so cool Jason! You guys did an excellent job of thinking this through. However, might not such a setting deny rightful customers as well as reward other purchasers who share the link if that setting is too high or too low? What a hornet’s nest.
Also, would 30 students at 10 classroom workstations access the same link and be considered 1 IP address or 10 IP addresses?
It would depend on the IP address. If they all access it from the same underlying IP address then it would only count once.
If this becomes an issue, I’d suggest that you force people to register for an account. In such a scenario (i.e. if everyone has an account) then you could disable s2Member’s Unique IP Restrictions and instead configure s2Member’s Simultaneous Login Monitoring feature, which is not prone to this sort of abuse; i.e. you allow X number of people to be logged in at the same time on a single account, regardless of IP address.
Yes, it has the potential to work for you or against you; depending on how you configure it. We find that it’s best to be generous and allow 10-20 unique IPs, since these days people tend to travel a lot or have multiple devices.I couldn’t find this kind of confirmation if s2M documents. I wish someone (with authority) from s2Member would weigh in on this forum question.
Thanks Krunch. There still remains a question. Anybody on the Internet can purchase specific page access without being a registered guest. Cookies alone control that access. WordPress does not allow simultaneous page level restriction AND paid access restriction. People don’t like to provide personal information just to browse a site’s offerings so it would be a mistake for an e-commerce site using WordPress tools to restrict any purchases and any page access to “members only”. How would they get a new cookie if they aren’t registered?

In reply to: [Simplify] Menu problems on mobile touch screen devices.I don’t think the author/developer knows how to fix this problem. The post is over two months old and adversely affects every Simplify site visited by a mobile user (huge numbers). Visitors can’t link to a sub-menu item so for them the site is largely DEAD. It’s been left to somebody else to come up with a fix. I’d probably expect the same level of support as a paying plugin user. I suspect the developer is just a plugin hobbyist after some loose change. Even on their website at https://d5creation.com/forums/search/mobile+device/ the plea on this issue has been ignored.
Thanks Pippin. False alarm. I came back to Admin this morning and everything was normal without having made any changes. The problem could have been Google Chrome getting near its “Out of Virtual Memory” state, a corrupted server cache, or whatever… Who knows? When it happened, it was pernicious and wouldn’t go away.
If it happens again, I’ll try a different browser like Firefox or IE to see if the problem persists.
Question: What does “Check this box to allow all users to generate API keys. Users with the ‘manage_shop_settings’ capability are always allowed to generate keys.” mean on the Settings options page?

In reply to: [Ajax Search Lite - Live Search & Filter] Nothing but "No Results!"Yes, there is a response. However, if you examine the currently active posts and pages and choose ANY term to search upon, ALL results will yield “No Results!”. At that point you’ll understand that something is wrong. The solution that worked for us was to revert to version 1.4. Now searches are working properly. The added features of 3.06 don’t do us any good if it doesn’t work. Yes, we carefully tried various appropriate configurations and read through the support documentation carefully.(Echoes of: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”) With all due respect, this is a great plugin but there’s not much point in spending more time debugging the issue!
