  • Yes it can … at least it seems to work for me.
The same Goldcart API key is active on all multisite ‘sites’ and all seems well

It’s working now so it must have been a WP.com issue.
Any ideas what? Is it likely to happen again?

    Thanks in advance

I do really, really (really) appreciate that software like WP & JP are so amazing & free. I just get frustrated when problems that are out of my control.

My hat is doffed in the direction of everyone involved.

That’s OK. You only need sort mine out ; )

I think possibly there are going to be a lot of new ‘register_http_request_failed’ posts to follow.

Strange things are afoot at the circle K

    So, perhaps a WP.com problem?

Just in case anyone else comes across this problem & is on a test server (ie:Localhost & not live) then this probably won’t work.
This is because it’s unlikely you have any kind of mail server set up on your PC.

The reason I mention it is because I’m on a Localhost test server, couldn’t get this to work then realised why. Do’h!

    Just saying … : )

I’m not surprised. WPEC support is non existent. Funny how lacking support has been shifted to WP.org to continue to be lacked.
Out of sight, out of mind & all that.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘actual store page’?
The products-page is the main page where all of your products appear.
This is basically what WPEC creates: the ability to add products to your WP install.
You can create a static page to be your ‘store front’ with links to your products.
    Is this what you meant?

On the main multisite dashboard (network admin > dashboard > plugins), make sure the WPEC plugin is installed but not ‘network activated’
When plugins aren’t network activated, you need to activate them per (multi) site.
So, only activate WPEC on the site you need it on. Have you done this?

    Please let me know.

    I solved this.
The actually needed this for the products on an e-commerce site.
I import the products using a spreadsheet converted to CVS, which includes category data.
(WPEC from GetShopped with Product Importer Deluxe by Visser Labs – truly awful support from both BTW)
It seems the importer messes stuff up on occasion as it creates categories if they don’t already exist & had created a real mess after a handful of updates to the products.
So, I deleted all product categories then re-uploaded the sheets, which re-created them from scratch.

This produced the result I wanted : )

Basically, WP automatically alters the slug for duplicated categories / sub categories (category can be the same name but slug must be different)

So, all sorted now. Thanks very much to me ; )

Thanks very much for the reply, Mika.

I took a look at your blog post regarding this issue (‘bolluxing’ is a good word ; )
This file / folder path problem seems rather messy, which irks me. I’m thinking I might just re-install everything. Upon initial reading, I think your solution seems laden with potential problems & pitfalls when placed in my incapable, novice hands.
I’ll re-read it, try to focus then decide what to do.

    You mention this:

    Edit all sites

Upload Path, Upload URL Path and Fileupload Url. You can blank them all out.

… but since I was doing the sites one at a time, I did them one at a time.

Sorry to be dumb, but where is this done?

    Thanks again

In reply to: [WP eCommerce] Fatal error

You should have made a backup of the database and files before you upgrade to 3.8.9 though ?? Maybe next time.

Really??! Great support!! You released a buggy update that has ‘Compatibility with WordPress 3.4.2: 100% (according to its author)’
Sort it out before you release rather than post condescending replies afterwards.

This crashed my site too. No database update notification BTW. No quick & easy link to an earlier version either.

The fact that (in Edward at Getshopped’s words)

WP e-Commerce is best not installed under multisite. Especially networked multisite. It is not designed to be used this way at this time.

How ridiculous. MultiSite compatibility is surely paramount.
No mention of that on the Getshopped sales page is there.

Thanks so much, Mika. I appreciate you taking the time. This worked (which you obviously knew being the expert you are : )

My main site still doesn’t show in the list of ‘my sites though?
    Any ideas gratefully received.

For the sake of anyone else who might have similar problems & stumbles across this, here’s exactly what I did, following Mika’s excellent advice:

I network deactivated both the WP E-commerce (WPEC) & WPEC Gold Cart plugins.
This rendered my subfolder sites blank (website & dashboard, so no access at all)
However, I still had them activated as single entities on the main site so I deactivated there too, which made the whole WordPress install blank.

I then accessed the main WP folder via FTP & re-named the entire plugin folder ( /wp-content/plugins ) to ‘Blugins’ then created a new, empty ‘Plugins’ folder.
This brought all sites back up.
I then copied all plugins back from ‘Blugins’ with the exception of WPEC & WPEC Gold Cart.
This reinstated everything but as ‘inactive’ so I reactivated what I needed per site (rather than ‘network activated’)

Just to be safe, I installed a new copy of WPEC from the ‘add new’ then also activated this per site (no network activation) then re-added the WPEC Gold cart plugin and all are working correctly now.

I hope this helps & thanks again to Ipstenu.

Yes. WPEC is a common abbrev. for it in my travels around various relevant parts of the web. Saves my poor typing. I’ve read many of your helpful posts. I’m surprised you’ve not heard or used it?

I actually replied to this thread myself with a resolved ‘tick’ but it’s not appeared. I must have done something wrong when submitting it??

I just changed the permalinks (Settings -> Permalinks) on the sub folder sites to ‘post’ rather than the custom setup of my main site, which worked.

Thanks for dropping by with your question though. Hopefully you’ve learned something ; ) (<that’s a joke BTW : )

    Cheers
