I just figured there’d be some generic file in which you could somehow position a picture (with a link) at position X,Y though PHP or JavaScript. WordPress has so many data files and I have no idea what most of their functions are supposed to be for.

Did you try a test .php file? Just something real basic to see if your PHP interpreter is functioning properly?

I also thought I’d put that I would not mind somehow getting around the whole timthumb.php and resizing the images manually, I’m just not sure how to go about it.

Probably aren’t concerned about it anymore since this thread is a month old, but there is no plugin. Smooth Gallery does everything through basic HTML and PHP, and is integrated into the coding of the theme.

It pulls the URLS of the images from the posts through a custom field. The posts must also be whatever you define to be the featured category in the theme preferences.
