Many thanks! The latest Jetpack update has now fixed things! ??
Yep, the video can be embedded by just adding the link in a post. I seem to remember the reason I was using shortcode embeds was to control the width, and so that it showed up in subscription emails. So it would be nice if I could keep using them.
That would be the WP-Typography plugin I use that’s adding the extra <span class=”amp”> tag to style ampersands. But it only adds that if shortcode embeds are turned off in Jetpack.
Just to make sure there wasn’t a conflict, there’s an option to turn off ampersand styling in WP-Typography. So I turned it off, but the same problem still occurs.
The problem as it stands is…
1. Jetpack shortcode embeds turned on, and the page doesn’t load properly, as per this link (slightly different to the first link, the page doesn’t load beyond the closing </head> tag): https://bananasaboutmovies.com/2012/12/09/trailer-checklist-oblivion/
2. Jetpack shortcode embeds turned off, and the whole page loads, but the shortcodes are rendered as plain text.
Thank you! Very quick response! Just updated the plugin, and everything’s working again. ??

In reply to: [Genericon'd] 404 icon missing?Bit of a late reply, but not sure if you mean it is genuinely a secret one, or you’re just joking around. ??
Here’s two screengrabs to show what I mean. First, the the dashboard page for Genricon’d on my website…
If I then click on the link called “the official Genericons Examples”, circled red on the image above, it takes me to the page which is on the screengrab below…
On that page, there is a “404” icon, 5th row down, 1st icon. So is that not part of Genericons any more?

In reply to: [Post Index] Excluding wordsYep, great plugin, but the above would also be a neat option. I have the plugin running on my movie site, with an index of movie reviews. Of course, quite a few movies start with “The” which means the letter T ends up with a lot of entries that would probably be best placed by the first letter of the second word of their title.
But still, awesome work all round, and a great plugin. ??
I’ve submitted a list of the plugins I’m using on https://jetpack.me/support as I’m not sure which, if any, could be Google+ related plugins. And placed a link to this thread in the support request.
Thanks for the reply. I actually thought it might be Adblock on my browser that was causing the problem. Disabled Adblock and Likes started working again. But today, they went back to constantly “Loading…” Turned Adblock back on, and they’re working again.
My site URL is https://bananasaboutmovies.com if you wanted to take a quick look, and see if you have any issues. I have had a report from one other commenter who said the Like button was jammed on “Loading…” for them as well.
As for importing posts, I’ve never imported any posts. They’ve always sat on my self-hosted WordPress install.

In reply to: Installing 3.6Mine seems to get stuck at “Installing the latest version” and then nothing happens. But if I go to the dashboard in another tab, everything seems to be working fine, and 3.6 is installed. The operative words being “seems to be working”.
Maybe I’m looking for problems where there aren’t any, but it makes me wonder whether the installation has completed properly, despite my blog working normally.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Emails not sendingI’ve published another post, and got an email straight away, so assuming other people have got theirs, it seems to be working again for now.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Emails not sendingI’ve done a similar thing to louise. Returned the post to draft status, republished it, and the emails were sent.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Emails not sendingI’m having a similar problem. The post I published today doesn’t seem to have gone out to email subscribers. I check this by subscribing with my own email, and I haven’t received anything, so I assume others haven’t either.
My url is: https://bananasaboutmovies.com
That’s brilliant, thanks for the reply. I’ll use the shortcode for future posts.
Thanks. I wanted to drop into a sidebar that wasn’t widgetized — I wanted more hands on control over how the sidebar looked. And ended up creating a widgetized sidebar just for the subscription code, and then dropped that into the non-widgetized sidebar.
Sounds like a lot of messing around, but it did the trick. And I could then customize it.
