  • thanks moshu, but that didn’t work for me…

    I’m using 2.6.
    I still can’t add a category in the “edit post” page.
    I click on the “add a category” link and it doesn’t do anything.
    So I only have one category, “uncategorized.”

    Can anyone help? How can I figure out how to fix it?
    Please email me at moneyenergy [AT] hotmail, I’ve been waiting on this three days now and haven’t been able to find any help. It will be much appreciated.

    I’m having the same problem with the “add category” button. can someone help explain to me what it was that lili4n4 did to fix it? How do I add a.htaccess file and how do I know if I need to add it? I know I’m a newbie but I’m not stupid. I’ve already fixed php code several times for this 2.6 install….

    thanks in advance!

    ok, figured it out.

    I had uploaded “classic” but not also “default.” (I had figured I wouldn’t be using default anyway, so might as well skip it).

    Turns out “default” has gotta be in there, at least initially.

    Hm, I added that line but nothing happened.

    My problem is just that no themes AT ALL show up on my theme page in the design tab. I do have the classic theme uploaded to my theme contents folder. Anyone else have this problem?

    well it seems like the blind are leading the blind in this thread…

    I’ve just installed 2.6 and went to my “design” page, only to see that there are no themes there. I check in my wp-content/themes folder and I do have the classic theme folder sitting there. It just doesn’t show up on the “front end” when I go to look at the site. It doesn’t even show up in the “design” page….. anyone know what I can check or how to fix it?

    thanks.

    Finally fixed it.

    EVERYBODY PAY ATTENTION: You can’t have apostrophes ‘ and quotes ” in your secret keys. Delete them. WordPress says you can “make up” your secret keys to be whatever you like, but it’s not true. If there are apostrophes within the ‘ and ‘ that are supposed to be there, your install won’t work.

    OH MY GOD…. thank you! This is what was wrong with mine too, and for the same situation!!! PLEASE, this post needs to be highlighted so others can see it.

    People, check your secret keys…
    Wordpres says “just make up whatever you want”, BUT YOU CAN’T INCLUDE APOSTROPHES or QUOTES because then your install won’t work!!!

    aaa, thanks whhooami!

    p.s. if anyone can please email me to help, it’s moneyenergy AT hotmail…… it would be great to hear from you.

    I have the same problem. Mine is on line 17.

    I’ve checked the semi colons and made sure there are no spaces at beginning and end of the whole file. There are no dangling quote marks, either. So I’m not sure what other syntax probs to look at. I deleted the comments that come with the file, but i was careful to only delete the stuff after the \\. So I don’t know what else to check. someone mentioned this was a problem with 2.6?

    Oh, maybe you can answer this for me:

    Shouldn’t there be a semi-colon at the end of the first line here as follows:

    if ( !defined(‘ABSPATH’) )
    define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/’);
    require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-settings.php’);

    I tried putting one there, but I still get the error message.
    I take it out, and I still get the error message. It doesn’t seem to make a difference.

    p.s. the unexpected T_STRING is in line 17 of my wp-config.php file. Is this the problem you are having too?

    I’m having this exact problem right now, trying to install 2.6

    I type in mywebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php,

    and it says there’s an unexpected T_STRING in line 17.

    I’ve looked at some PHP support pages online and I’ve tried checking the syntax in my wp-config.php file, but it looks fine. Can anyone help?
    Please email me at moneyenergy AT hotmail…..

    Also, I’m trying to install it as part of a second database so that I can run two blogs within my same hosting account. But I’ve followed the codex instructions here and I don’t think that should be the problem….
