I’m using Cimy Swift SMTP plugin, and it does not work for e-mail backups from Better WP Security. It would be great if this two plugins would be compatible.

I had the same problem. I believe Hide Backend is causing the problem, because it redirects POST/login to the wp-login page in .htaccess. If you turn off Hide Backend, you should be able to login to your page (delete cookies + reload page).

do any of the other functions that require .htaccess work? do the permalinks work? maybe mod_rewrite is disabled or the server ignores your .htaccess file. i have one site where that is the case (probably allowoverride none), and unfortunately a number of plugins are not working

do you have .htaccess in the root folder with write permissions (maybe try 777)? did you give the plugin permission to write to the files (system tweaks)? otherwise, if you switch that off, you should see the code at the bottom of the page after you save your changes, with the recommendation to add it manually.
