Many thanks yodajpj. Late last night I eventually worked this out myself, though your help and comment is most welcome and reassuring that I wasn’t just going mad!

I wasn’t brave enough to fully delete the backup folder, so I simply FTP’d in and re-named it and the result was the same. I am still struggling to re-install the plugin, but at least the site is live again.

This is clearly a bug in their custom file format, storing the old path in the backup file, which will prevent the “migrate” process, as this path is never going to be the same if migrating between servers.

I am well used to the concept of working stuff out myself – it is to be expected in the open source part of the WordPress world, but it is very disappointing that when someone who has the cheek to charge for premium “Gold” features, a significant part of which is for “Emergency” support, fails to come through… I’m not going to get that part of my life back. Heyho, you live and learn!

yup, I tried using their extractor but it only seems to extract the wp-content folder, so I have no way of restoring the database…

I’m very disappointed in their idea of “Emergency” support, my site has now been out of action for over 48 hours, and I have only had two responses to my support ticket in that time.

Thank you for your help anyway!

if you are trying to migrate your backup to another server, The answer above is not correct. I am having the same issue, and it is not directory permissions, but that the backup file has a different backup path to the restore path. I am not getting much help at all from the plugin author, and have spent the last 30 hours trying to work this out on my own without any help or success. ?? not happy.

    Did you resolve your problem?

Hi again, my errant user is now having problems with the re-created page ?? All other pages work perfectly, just one single page where neither the editor or the content load at all (“Word count 0” at the bottom of the edit window), either in visual or text view.

I turned off tinyMCE Advanced, and it didn’t change a thing. I created another temporary user for him to try, and this did the same thing.

Today I logged on with his credentials myself, and the same problem is occurring for me. Also if I now log in as the new temporary user since he tested it, this is now also broken for me too, though if I log back in as myself, all is fine (and I left the page in editor with his user when I logged out and then back in as me, and WP gave me the usual “page being edited by other user” dialogue, so WP clearly thinks the editor is working)..

    the other plugins running are:

    Background Updates for Major Releases
    Masterblogster Scroll Top and Bottom
    Private Only
    Quick Chat
    WordPress Backup to Dropbox
    WP-Activity
    WP-UserOnline

Deactivating all of them has no effect, where do I go next?

    Many thanks!

Thanks for your reply, that is really difficult to test, as it is one user/one page, and I’d need to coordinate with him to make sure it was tested properly…

For the time being I have done as I described above… a workaround I know, and I fear this will happen again, but at least he is able to get on with his work!

I did have the almost identical issue with another one user/one page on a previous WP site which had been set up in an almost identical way with the same plugins but older versions, but I put that one down to a wetware issue. This maybe demonstrates it was more than that…

Thank you for your help in the meantime, and I will test as you suggest before taking further steps!

I’ve tried disabling all plugins and changing the theme to twentytwelve (which I’ve never used before), and I still cannot create any new sub items… If I delete an existing sub item I cannot re-add it… this is very strange and quite frustrating!!

    FYI
    16 Pages
WordPress 3.8 running Twenty Ten theme

apologies new here(ish) – hope you’ll still help me when I have done that! ??

Hi I am using a non customised twentyten theme and having the same issue. I seem to only be able to create a submenu on just one of the main menu items. if i truy to add submenus to another main menu item by dragging them to the right and saving, it simply leaves them as main menu items….

    Heelp!

I use Chrome, get the issue with IE too

Thank you for all your help.

With your plugin disabled, originally the problem went away, but this evening has come back.

I switched to TwentyTen (we use TwentyEleven), and this made no difference, I disabled all plugins and things returned to normal, so I re-enabled them one by one, all are OK except Co-Author Plus and All in One SEO Pack… though from what you suggest this may change!

    what can I do?
