In reply to: Pingbacks not workingI got an email from a MT blogger that has been getting dozens of pings from my posts, one I posted Sunday which he has been getting pings for yesterday and today when I didn’t edit it. When I checked, it showed it hadn’t pinged his blog and the link was still in the send trackbacks spot of post page. Any clue why this is happening?

In reply to: After 2.5 upgrade my “Pages” give 404 errorAt the bottom of the permalink page is the correct info that needs to be in the .htaccess file. Either let WordPress update it, if the file is writable or make a file yourself by copying and pasting the new code. Save it in Unix format. Might have to make it htaccess.txt then change file name once uploaded.
I haven’t tried it myself, have previously imported Blogger site no problems. As the database stores posts by ID# not permalink structure, it should import fine. You can change permalink structure and the blog itself won’t break, just if someone else linked the post, won’t find it. The redirect used to be in the .htaccess file, now it’s streamlined. It should be no harder than the upgrade as that had to change the database.
Not sure on the category change, it “Import posts, comments, custom fields, pages, and categories from a WordPress export file” so you’d get all the old categories back. Can change the name of the category afterwards.
I have a couple test blogs, I could test it out. Suggest trying it on a blog in a subdomain first. That way if it doesn’t work can delete the whole thing and start over.
I tested a new site fresh install, Dreamhost’s one click install, pages showed no problem. I had figured that my .htaccess file was the culprit on the test site, updated it and promptly got the dreaded 500 Internal Server Error sitewide as I had saved the file in the wrong format causing a parse error but saving it in Unix format fixed that. Site is on Unix server. My thanks to Dreamhost support for finding and fixing the problem with the file. I would not have figured that bit out otherwise as I don’t have my WP files writable to edit in WP.
I’m hosted on a Linux server and have the same problem with pages not showing. IMHO WP needs to fix it so it works with all permalink structures. Shouldn’t be something that is broken or requires creative workarounds to get working without borking the whole site is the process. I’m not upgrading the main site until the bugs are fixed.

In reply to: Update-Links.php and Ping-o-MaticI tried to comment about it in the Pingomatic blog since it’s a Pingomatic problem. Comment is still awaiting moderation.
I also tried several times to find this thread in WP support search without luck. I had to Google it. The del.icio.us style tags in support weren’t any help either in finding it.
What good is it to ping Pingomatic with each post if it doesn’t show updated links on one’s blog? Kindof defeats the purpose of Pingomatic as an update service.
Still can’t get it to work. I’ll have to try fixing links-update.php to ping another service since Pingomatic is dead.

In reply to: Am I the only one?I think the upload feature with the tiny thumbnails being only one size, tiny, was so you could browse them. If they had different sizes, it wouldn’t work. And with tiny thumbs, people might put more pics in their posts, drag and drop. WYSIWYG. It does work in Camino but is really frustrating to someone that likes raw html cause it’s more limited. Reminds me of Netscape Composer.
And the interface is all javascript. The WYSIWYG uses TinyMCE for the backend and it is not created by Matt. https://tinymce.moxiecode.com/
Oh, and once the little boxes are clicked, they stay clicked. One nice feature is thumbnails for the themes. None of this means I like it. I don’t and will stay with 1.5 for my main blog.

In reply to: Upgraded to 1.5 — Cannot Edit All My Old Posts…Page works, even the full post with comments work in Camino and Safari. Loads fast too. Firefox is an excellent alternative to IE, faster too.

In reply to: Playing with DashboardThinking, I have no idea. Might have double clicked in Transmit, have done that before and unintentionally uploaded files. Anyway I took it out and it now works.

In reply to: Playing with DashboardWorked perfectly in my test blog but when I tried it in my regular blog, I got:

In reply to: Newest Nightly Not goodI’m running the 11-11 nightly and notice it tries to ping images so if your post has a bunch of images in it, it will try to ping them. Also, if you use Safari, it is slower than if you use Firefox so use Firefox. Sides, the Quicktags work in Firefox.
And running wp-admin/upgrade.php is a must.Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Is bloghosts.com down?I’ve used Dreamhost for over three years now and have always gotten prompt attention to support requests and have been very happy with them.
