For the benefit of anyone else struggling with this, I fixed the error messages showing on the front end of my site by following these instructions, sent by my friend. Log in to your hosting company’s site and follow the instructions you will find via the link below – this makes it very straightforward, even for tech nitwits like me:

Thank you. I will contact Bluehost about it (when I have a few hours to spare!)

Will that fix the problem entirely?

I have a similar issue, but I have a lot less technical knowhow than @kendriver, so I have no idea how to go about fixing and / or getting rid of the notices that appear on both the front and back end of my site, https://www.modflowers.co.uk

    The notices read as follows:

Notice: Function _load_textdomain_just_in_time was called incorrectly. Translation loading for the ewww-image-optimizer domain was triggered too early. This is usually an indicator for some code in the plugin or theme running too early. Translations should be loaded at the init action or later. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. The first I knew about something going wrong was my site going down numerous times over the weekend. I have updated all my plugins, disconnected Jetpack (but now seem unable to reconnect it again) and am absolutely stumped as to how to get my site back to functioning properly.
Happy to post this question in a new post if that’s what’s required!

Hi @stef (a11n), I followed Emily A’s advice above, which enabled me to reactivate Jetpack.
In response to her query, one thing I remember that I used to use Jetpack for was to provide a mobile-friendly version of my site (as my theme doesn’t come with this option) but Jetpack no longer provides this.
My site still works, so I guess that means that my original question has been resolved.
    Many thanks!

Thanks for your response. I contacted my host and they were able to help me to disable Jetpack, after which I was able to log in and access my WordPress dashboard.
Which is good, but I still don’t know what I need to do to fix the site going forward, as it was built using a theme that was modified with custom CSS to look the way I wanted. The site still looks the same, but is this just because I’m viewing a cached version? I haven’t yet tried clearing the cache to see if it then looks different. If Jetpack no longer supports custom CSS, then presumably my site is going to just break again if I reactivate Jetpack. What happens if I just don’t reactivate Jetpack? Its always been there on my site, but a lot of the functionality that it had when I first installed it isn’t there any more. Do I actually need it?
I can access my dashboard, but basically have no idea what I need to do now!

Ah well, thank you for trying. At least I now know what a stacktrace is!

Also, there is no problem with Add Custom Header Images when Jetpack is deactivated, so I think the conflict must be with Jetpack, not the theme. I haven’t changed the theme but Jetpack periodically gets updated, so my guess is that the conflict has arisen because they have changed something about Jetpack in a recent update.
I guess I will have to choose between Add Custom Header Images and Jetpack!

That’s strange… I’ve had the plugin installed for ages and everything worked perfectly. The theme does allow me to set a header image, but I installed the plugin because when I installed one using the theme, the header image was always blurry. Using your plugin allowed me to upload a sharp, good quality image.

Hopefully this is what you need! I have copied the stacktrace information below:

OK, I have gone into the settings for WP Debugging and set the WP_FATAL_ERROR_HANDLER to true. But I still don’t know how to get the information you require re: the stacktrace, because I still don’t know what a stacktrace is, or what it looks like, or how to find it / generate it.

Sorry Andy, but your level of tech knowledge is way beyond me and means that I have no idea what to do or how to do it. It’s like you are speaking a different language. I’m a tech numpty and you will have to explain in the simplest of terms what you want me to do and how to go about doing it. Sorry to be so dense.

I have installed and activated the WP Debugging plugin, but I still don’t know what a stacktrace is, or what it looks like, or where to look to find it.

Sorry, I don’t know what a stacktrace is.
I have deactivated Add Custom Header Images on my site, so it currently functions. If I reactivate it when Jetpack is also activated, I see a “Critical Error” message when I check on my phone. Luckily I can still access the back end on my laptop (which is how I tested the plugins).

I’m not sure what you mean as I didn’t set up the site and have limited tech skills… a friend did all the custom CSS and used google fonts.
It sounds as though lots of other people have had / are having the same issue, specifically with Safari 12 and OS Mojave 10.14:
