Make sure there is no built-in menu option in this theme, which is might over riding the default wordpress menu

There is a slider option on wordpres back end, just like you create a new post..

Enter the shortcode on your editor, when you write the content for your page/post. Also you can enter this shortcode in text widget to display the gallery in sidebar.
