Try having a backup and install new theme on that backup (with no risk of course).

Check your header.php file…

You can do it manually, by Exporting all the tables once selected.
For backup plugins I dont have much idea, but once i used a plugin called WP Instant Backup and it worked quite well.

Try modifying your wp-config.php

Create a Page with a Title “Home”
then In your Backend,
Settings -> Reading ->
For home page Select
Static Page and from the select box, choose Home as the Landing page of your Site .
Put what even content you want in it..
