I actually solved my problem by writing another plugin (which was a good learning exercise)

I’m getting the same since I upgraded from 3.8.2 to 3.9
if it’s broken in the new release, there should be a bug fix release to fix it!

is there a way for users to CHANGE password without going to the WordPress profile?
