This error is driving me nuts!

I disconnected my FB for WooCommerce plugin today because I was having some problems and wanted to start from scratch (or close to the beginning). Unfortuntely, when I tried to reconnect, I got the same error message that’s been listed above:

Could not retrieve Facebook Business Extension System User

I’ve cleared caches. I’ve deleted system users and the plugin and reinstalled it. No luck.

    Please help

    UPDATE:

About 20 minutes later, I got it to work but in a very roundabout way. I installed the Facebook for WordPress app (as recommended above). That still wouldn’t connect me. But then I went back into my shop and clicked on publish updates. And that made the shop appear in FB again (I’ve never been able to get it approved for Instagram). Anyhow, once it showed up on FB, I tried the connection between FB and WooCommerce and it finally went through without the error message. It still seems a little off, but I guess it works for now.

Related: I just wish I could get IG shopping approved. That’s the whole reason I disconnected and tried to reconnect. What a mess. As a test, last week I tried to connect a new Shopify shop and a new WooCommerce shop to FB/IG. The Shopify shop is now live on both FB/IG without much heavy lifting. The WooCommerce shop is only on Facebook. :-/

@chrisdc85 I’m too afraid to turn off Jetpack. It has too many functions and I don’t want to break my site. I only recently turned on Easy TOC because another TOC plugin wasn’t working well with another plugin on my site. ??

@britner I turned off the jquery defer and cleared the cache. But no change.

It’s really not a big deal all in all if I don’t have the lightbox functionality. I mean, it works when I put images in a gallery. But not when I insert them individuality. But I just wanted to see what might be keeping it from working.

It’s not on Kadence at all. You guys are great. But man, it’s frustrating not being able to have all the functions I want/need on my site. There’s always something interfering with something else. I wish I could pare down the plugins even more than I have but then I think my site would be pretty boring and slow.

    Alas…

    Thanks, Ben.

You’ve been very thoughtful and helpful throughout all of this.

I made a new child theme and customized everything again. Hopefully it will stay put. But I will keep in mind all you said about the child theme issue. I didn’t know that the thinking on that had changed.

Another thing that I noticed afterward was that WordPress pushed an update yesterday at about the exact same time as I had the issue. So maybe that is when the glitch happened.

Thank you again for your time and consideration. I will close this ticket now. ??

Anyhow…is there a way to export all of my settings/customizations so I can import them next time this happens? Hopefully it won’t happen again. But just to be sure…

Ah…so it’s 24h later and the theme reverted back to the default customizations again. So, I created a new child theme to start from scratch. But while I was using the customizer and resetting the menu, everything just reverted back again.

    This is really strange.

    Thanks, Ben.

The name of my child theme folder is personalized, yes. But it has been like that since I started using the theme in February. There have been several updates to the theme since then and I haven’t noticed any changes in the customizations when I have updated.

I’m using a child theme because that has been the norm for “best practices” for a while now so that customizations don’t get changed when a theme updates. ??

I downloaded the header and footer because I was inserting special header scripts there (e.g., affiliate verification codes).

For the record, I really love your theme and I’ve never had any trouble with it before now. I even gave it a 5-star rating today because all in all it is solidly coded and lightweight and does what I want. This seems to have been an anomaly and I wish I could figure out what happened.

If you have any other suggestions for what I should do moving forward, I’d appreciate it. Maybe I’ll customize it to my specifications on the main theme as well and see what happens next time there’s an update.

Thank you so much for your quick and thoughtful support. I hope you’re having a good day otherwise!

Would it be helpful for me to give you access so you can take a quick look under the hood?

My theme files under my child theme are:
    header
    footer
    style.css
    chld_thm_cfg_child.min.css
    theme functions

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for the quick feedback. I didn’t change anything and I’ve been able to update Kadence fine for a while now. It’s weird. Some customizations stayed, such as my extra CSS.

Anyhow, I think I have mostly redone the customizations for now.

    Hey Hardeep,

Once again, I think I have solved my own problem. ??

There seemed to be a conflict with another maps plugin or some old code that was left behind in a custom field from a previous theme. I reinstalled the old theme and the blocks worked. Then, I tried the new theme again and the blocks worked again.

I’m not sure what actually happened. But the maps work now. On all the pages.

Thank you again for being so quick to reply.

    Hi Vlad,

    Thanks for looking.

I actually followed up my original post to say that I changed my theme and the underline problem went away.

I’m still not sure why my old theme was underlining some links and not others. But downgrading to a lighter-weight theme was the answer.

By the way, those list items in black were not links. But with my old theme, some of the orange links were underlined and some were not. It looked so weird!

    Marking this as resolved. ??

Ah…I am looking in the customizer and getting consistency with a different theme. Of course. So frustrating to have a nice theme when it doesn’t work as it should.

Is it possible that stray custom fields from previous themes or plugins are interfering with my theme’s ability to style links?

Although I figured out this is a theme issue, I would love it if someone could offer some advice on this problem. Thanks!

Hi. Yes. It’s Asset Cleanup: Page Speed Booster. It seems to work great for speed. But I guess its limiting of .js caused the problem with the maps.

Of course, it may have just been a problem because of the duplication of minify on SG Optimizer vs. Cloudflare.

I actually don’t want to cast any blame on any of these plugins or services because they all seem to work great on their own. But running a WordPress install is a bit like being a pharmacist and you have to understand contraindications.

    Thread Starter missadventures

    (@missadventures)

    Ah. It’s working again!

I disabled minify on Cloudflare because I had it with a plugin. I also deactivated a plugin that helped me limit assets. One of the two of those must have done it. I purged the cache and my maps were there again.

Thank you for helping me figure out the cause. We do so much to try to “optimize” our sites with plugins that we end up ruining the front end for our users.

    Here’s one example:

    https://www.italofile.com/italian-cities-and-regions/campania/

Please note that I have two maps on this page. The first is an embed (because I liked the way it delineated borders around the region in question). The second one, an otter map, is not showing up. You can see the code for it in “inspect.”
