I found some time to implemented to x-sendfile approach in the latest version 2.4.0. You can now check this setting on the settings page, then the file is downloaded using the x-sendfile header. Of course this requires your server to support this according to https://tn123.org/mod_xsendfile/. Hope it helps.

I will try to provide a consolidated fix for one of the upcoming versions of the plugin, where hopefully mobile browser issues like yours will be solved as well. It might take some weeks or months, though, because such issues are not trivial.

The [download-code] shortcode uses the standard hook for shortcodes. If this is not supported in a widget, then maybe the widget needs to be extended.

But maybe it helps to understand what your use case is, can you described it in a little more detail?

Hi, I am the author ?? It seems to be really hard to fix the multiple download header issues, because once I apply a fix for one problem, another one pops up. Also looking at other plugin examples, I will try my best to solve all issues with one of the upcoming versions (not 2.3.0 which will be published soon but contain general usability features which are much easier to implement).

If you have some more hints for me which headers work for you and which not, this would be great.

You are lucky, because during Christmas holidays I found some time to add some smaller and medium features. Import of existing codes will be possible with version 2.3.0 which I will publish today or tomorrow.

Sure, this is possible. I have put your request on the feature request list, where there are already a couple of similar requests. It is not necessary to pay for the feature, but you will unfortunately have to wait a little. Because I am currently the only one developing on this and I might need to wait for my next holidays to find enough time for the endeavour to develop the next bufixes and features.
