Yeah, I use WAMP on Windows. Could you try MAMP for the mac?

Just had a bit of a play around and although the empty category explanation might account for them not appearing in the sidebar, they should still appear in wp-admin. Very odd indeed. I’ll do some research on the matter.

Please don’t hit me for asking a silly question but do these categories have any posts in or are they empty? I thought the same thing was happening once with categories not appearing in my sidebar but then I realised it was because they didn’t have any posts in them. 99.9999% sure you will have checked this but thought I’d better mention it.

so when users click login, you want them to enter their details and then be directed straight back to the homepage?

Not sure what you mean by:

I want the user to go directly to the VIEW SITE after login.

“View Site” is just a link on the dashboard that takes you to your home page o your site.

A crude way would be to password protect everything and give your mates the password….

What Version of WP are you using? I wasn’t able to do it without a plugin until 2.5

OK, what part of all that makes you think that WordPress is at fault? It’s clearly an issue with your setup or something you’re doing wrong.

Disable all your plugins and re-enable them.
