Forum: Localhost Installs
In reply to: My website takes me to WAMP homepageOk I figured out what I was doing wrong in the tutorial for the virtual hosting, in the hostfile I hadn’t typed .co.uk on the end of my additional lines (so just https://www.site1 etc). Corrected that.
So now it works, BUT – only one of them works! (UGH). It’s really strange I just copy/pasted the bits of code needed for each site’s virtual host and change the bits where needed (site1 for site2). Now when I browse to each site on the Internet, site2 works fine but site1 gives an error 404 not found.
How can that be? I have gone back over the code a hundred times to check for errors, it’s all identical to site2’s code. It must be something else.
I’ve even changed the order in which I added the lines to host file but makes no difference…

In reply to: My website takes me to WAMP homepageShould I amend my WordPress address (URL) and Site address (URL) within wordpress admin? So far they are:
WordPress address: https://localhost/site1/wordpress
Site address: https://www.site1.comand same for site 2. Is that right?

In reply to: My website takes me to WAMP homepageI followed that tutorial and exactly the same thing happens. Both sites just take me to the WAMP page.
I do have that Index.php file in my www folder, so what exactly should you do with it? I tried deleting it and that just makes everything point to same place but it’s displayed as an index of folders rather than the WAMP page.
This is so frustrating.

In reply to: Site works locally but domain name gives error 403I wasn’t gonna mention this so as not to confuse anyone but, I guess it’s worth mentioning.
I have a backup of the whole C:\wamp folder with both sites in the same directories etc, an exact copy basically, except that I have done more work building the site in the current one.
If I replace the current C:\wamp folder with the backup one, the backup one works and connects to the domains. Sort of. So If I use the backup C:\wamp folder in place of the current folder, the domains work and you can access the sites. BUT, they only work in following way:
Both domains (www.site1.com and https://www.site2.com) take you to the index page of the www folder (don’t know why), where you get the list of folders contained within, then if you click on wordpress folder yes it takes you to the site. BUT, if you go to site1.com and click on the wordpress folder of site2 then you get this:
And exactly same if you do it other way round, https://www.site2.com/site1
I got frustrated with this and just swapped the backup C:\wamp folder for that one (cos I knew it worked fine) and started all over again.
And that’s where I am now, I’m using the backup C:\wamp folder which works fine in every way, except that when you go to either domain name you just constantly get error 403. I have tried every thing I can find on here to resolve it.
What the hell is going on with this? ??

In reply to: Site works locally but domain name gives error 403Hi, yeah one single WAMP server, one IP address and both domains pointed to it.
I didn’t configure virtual hosting no, I just installed them in different directories C:/wamp/www/site1/wordpress and C:/wamp/www/site2/wordpress
I know the domains see the server to some extent because if I stop services on the WAMP server the domains just hang. Turn them back on and immediate 403.

In reply to: Two whole separate installs, not "multisite"Many thanks for the links. Got me a lot closer but still not working properly. Been at this for days now. I’ll follow it up on the forums where they are talking about it. Thanks again.

In reply to: Two whole separate installs, not "multisite"Hi, yeah my own server. Using Wamp.
Something else which may be related and I forgot to include previously is that whenever I browse to localhost, it also redirects me to my first website. Instead of the Wamp page.
I just don’t know what steps I need to take to make both wp install point to their respective domain names.
thanks, stuart
