In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityI tested the dev version on our test server, and everything appeared to be stable. It’s hard to compare speed on our test server site, because we have very few posts. But, everything was loading very smoothly, my user groups / assigned posts were still in tact, etc.
Looking forward to the release of the updated version! Thanks for your work on this.

In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityHmm… regarding the menus, I’d say they’re pretty average. Top menu has 4 main links, total of 8 dropdown links. Then we have 3 other sidebar menus, with a total of 19 links.

In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityOk, here are the results on the live site:
A speed test at pingdom.com was previously reporting a loading speed of around 20 seconds. (Yep, that bad). It’s now down to 8 seconds. (Still bad, but not nearly as much so.)
However, it’s still a situation where, when I deactivate the UAM plugin, the site loads right up, quick as could be.
But again, thanks for getting it to a point where the plugin is not causing as much slowdown as before. We have 6 groups and around 223 posts (though not all of those posts have group distinctions – it seems overall number of posts still makes a difference in loading speed.)
Thanks again for your help on this. I’m going to keep up with the thread in case any further progress is made.

In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityNo problem, completely understandable. Again, your help is greatly appreciated.
Your revision above worked great on our dev site (with twentythirteen activated). I haven’t yet tried duplicating the live site in question onto the dev server, and going from there (as it’s nearing the end of the work day, it’s probably best to try that tomorrow), but, the speed difference on the dev server was definitely noticeable. It was loading much, much faster than before (even though it only had 35 posts compared to the 223 our problem site has). So, looks very promising indeed.
Thanks again for your help. I’ll reply once it’s been applied to the live site.

In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityOk, shoot. Just did try Marcus’ version of the plugin on our test server (WP up to date, all other plugins up to date, Twenty Thirteen theme activated to start with), and I’m getting a php error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /home/domains/public_html/wpdev/wp-content/plugins/user-access-manager/class/UamUserGroup.class.php on line 494
Again, my php knowledge is extremely limited, so I’m not sure why this is an error. ??

In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityOk, great, thank you for the response. So, I downloaded from your link above just before I posted earlier (about an hour ago). Did you post a newer version to the link above? Do I need to download it again?
I will definitely try testing on one of our test servers first. Again, your assistance in this is very much appreciated. Eager to see if this version helps – sounds very promising.
Thanks!

In reply to: [User Access Manager] Repeated queries and scalabilityDefinitely following this with piqued interest as well. I couldn’t figure it out – we have several sites that use UAM, and only one of them was encountering the extreme slowness issue. (We determined it was UAM by disabling all plugins, and then reactivating each of them one by one until it slowed down again. UAM was the culprit). Then, when comparing the slowed site with one of other sites that loaded fine; the slow site has 223 posts, the site with no performance issues had 19. So, it does appear that post count / what Marcus is referencing above (the programming stuff starts to go WAY over my head) is what is affecting the slow loading of the site in question for us.
Marcus, my question to you is: If I install the version of the plugin that you are working on, provided in the link above, A) will it keep my existing user groups / post assignments in tact (I assume so, but want to be sure) and B) Even though it’s still a work in progress, am I reading correctly that it should improve the site’s performance, at least to some extent?
I also wish to echo what many here have said. We really love the overall functionality of this plugin – it’s perfect for the type of “board members only” areas that some of our clients require. We had never run into this performance issue before, so I’m glad someone is digging in to the root of the issue. And Marcus, as a user of this plugin, I would like to also offer my thanks to you for digging in and trying to remedy the issue at hand, from all of those of us who have very little programming knowledge. This plugin is integral to several of our sites, so it’s nice to see some progress being made towards a solution.
I’ll keep watching the thread for sure, hoping at some point there is a version of the plugin that truly completely resolves the issue.
Thanks!

In reply to: [My YouTube Channel] [Plugin: YouTube Channel] Causes a Script Error in IE?I am having the exact same issue as stated above. However, in my case, it’s only in IE8 or lower, and it’s only when the option to show a playlist instead of a channel is checked. With the same settings, it displays correctly in IE9 with no errors.
Unfortunately, the client only uses IE8, so I really need to get it resolved, quickly. Otherwise it’s a wonderful plugin.
