Hi Frank,

WP Engine is a little unique in how it applies SSL. This may be part of the problem.

I’ll try the “WordPress HTTPS (SSL)” plugin to see if that resolves.

I am having issues with WP Engine too.

I have the rewrite rules enabled in .htaccess and in nginx (wp engine entered).

I get 404’s anytime it’s enabled w/ CDN rewrite enabled.

I forced the cron job to run as well and the images were still not optimized.

+1 on the option.

On touch devices, hover isnt a solution. A fixed option would be a great addition to the plugin.
