Dear Garry,
You are an ABSOLUTE STAR ! ??????????
Can’t Thank You Enough !!
I didn’t follow you instructions to the letter: I simply downloaded a zip file from GitHub uploaded this to the website and then extracted, and moved, the contents to the plugins directory of the website and then renamed the -WC-Custom-Add-to-Cart-Labels-Backup-main directory to wc-custom-add-to-cart-labels and activated the plugin. It even ‘remembered’ the settings so no need to reconfigure – everything was as it was before disaster struck yesterday.
Brilliant!
I’m left scratching my head about the author ! ??
Anyone can make a mistake when it comes to writing code. But removing old versions of a plugin from www.remarpro.com ?
Don’t understand why a Moderator would Archive all the “I have this problem too” (sic) posts that were added to your original error report either ?????
Anyway – Feel Free To Wear a Cape ANY+TIME !!
Thanks Again
Mike
Laszio,
Many thanks for your speedy reply – and excellent support.
It’s comforting to know that I wasn’t just imagining things !
But – More Importantly! – it’s GREAT to have the assurance that if I see the problem again that I can get in touch via your support system. That’s simply Outstanding – and MUCH appriciated.
I very much hope I don’t have any issues – but if I do, I’ll be in touch ?
Best Regards
Mike
Laszio,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry not to get back to you sooner.
I can confirm that the version installed on this site is the Free version – not the Pro version
However, I can also report that following recent updates to the Blocksy Theme – along with updates to other plugins used by this website – I can no longer reproduce this problem !
So the cause of the issue will remain a mystery I’m afraid.
Sorry to waste your time
Thanks – again – for your help
Mike
It’s taken time (my other commitments) – But I took your advice, and contacted the Siteground support team.
What I’ve learned is very interesting….
The plugin would not convert images when:
– they are JPEG or PNG images above 1 MB in size
– they had been uploaded manually or had been generated by a theme or plugin;
– the images are not a part of the Media Library; In my particular case I have a number of ‘large’ (over 1 MB) background images and others in sizes generated by plugins/custom code that are left untouched by Speed Optimiser.
Now that I understand the ‘rules’ – I can address the problem by altering format/resolution and adding images to the Media Library manually.
Benny,
I’ve tested BlockMeister on another site that’s built using Blocksy Pro – without a problem!
So I went back to https://staging3.smarterbusinessprocesses.com/ and built a Block Pattern from scratch using only core blocks – and it exhibited the same errors as before!!!
So I deleted and recreated and recreated the staging site, installed BlockMeister and tried again – same result – but this time I noticed that the Google Translate icon was present in the Chrome address bar, and had detected German which it was translating into English.
I selected the icon and selected the option to ‘Never Translate this site’ – and the ‘problem’ seems to have disappeared…
I’ve NEVER encountered a ‘translation’ issue whilst editing a page using the WordPress Editor before. It only appeared whilst editing Block Patterns <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>and</span> only on this particular site!! So I’ve no idea what might have caused automatic translation to take place – or why this resulted in the error message I’ve been seeing but, for the moment, all seems fine.
I’ll give BlockMeister a spin on the live site – at least I know what t look for if a similar problem surfaces again ??
Thanks for your help with this
Much Appreciated
Mike
Benny,
many thanks for getting back to me so quickly, for time looking into this and for your advice. Much appreciated.
I disabled all plugins – apart from BlockMeister and Stackable – and attempted to edit the Block Pattern, but experienced exactly the same result !
So I disabled Stackable and tried again [ I ignored “Your site doesn’t include support for the “stackable/columns” block. You can leave this block intact, convert its content to a Custom HTML block, or remove it entirely.” and opted to Save as HTML
This created a CustomHTML block
Again, any attempt to edit this block results in same error(s) as before:
Error: Failed to execute ‘removeChild’ on ‘Node’: The node to be removed is not a child of this node.

Anything else you can suggest that might shed light on what’s going on here ?
Or should I simply wipe the staging site & start again from scratch ?
( this would be a pretty unsatisfactory approach. I had hoped that tracking down the problem might have shed light on its cause – helping both of us – but I’m at a loss here )
Might the problem be Theme (Blocksy Pro) related ?

I also have 3 sites that crash following installation of 3.1.44

In reply to: [Matomo Analytics - Ethical Stats. Powerful Insights.] 502 – Bad GatewayHi,
Sorry not to get back to you sooner.
I’ve been busy on other projects and only just had time to get back to this issue
In the meantime, Matomo appears to be working without a hitch.
So, today, I added the following line to wp-config.php:
define( ‘MATOMO_SUPPORT_ASYNC_ARCHIVING’, false );
But when I run Matomo diagnostics I still get warnings about?PHP cli Version &?MySQLi support: missing

In reply to: [Matomo Analytics - Ethical Stats. Powerful Insights.] 502 – Bad GatewayHi,
I waited until the weekend to carry out the reinstallation you’ve suggested
I removed the existing plugin, reinstalled the plugin and removed set the MATOMO_SAFE_MODE option to false.
Not a particularly pleasant experience, and several error messages on the way.
Notice: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.remarpro.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to www.remarpro.com. Please contact your server administrator.) in /home/customer/www/sentispec.com/public_html/wp-includes/update.php on line 447

I noticed that the Siteground Optimiser was generating an ‘Error x’ message (no details presented by the plugin – just the word Error ) so I disabled this plugin, which removed the error messages above. I then re-enabled Siteground Optimiser, without a problem, and it now seems like the site is working OK
Along the way I’ve been able to create and copy the Matomo Diagnostics report below.
I’m unsure why the PHP cli Version is incompatible – or why MySQLi support is missing. [ I am running PHP 7.4.33 and unfamiliar with how to configure PHP to run with specific requirements and Siteground PHP configuration options appear not to mention either ‘cli’ or ‘MySQLi’ ]

In reply to: [Matomo Analytics - Ethical Stats. Powerful Insights.] 502 – Bad GatewayThanks for getting back to me
The Site is pretty quite today so having previously enabled ‘MATOMO_SAFE_MODE’ via the wp-config.php file on the live site I activated the Matomo plugin without any problems.
The only option visible via the matomo menu was to generate system report but – when I selected this option – the following error message was created:

In reply to: [Matomo Analytics - Ethical Stats. Powerful Insights.] 502 – Bad GatewayHi,
Thanks for this.
Sorry not to get back to you sooner – ( I’ve been on holiday for a week or so, and only got back yesterday!! )
I checked out the guide on how to generate a system report and added ‘MATOMO_SAFE_MODE’ to the wp-config.php file on the live site – but I’m nervous about activating the Matomo plugin ( its currently disabled ) on a live site. I’d hate to get a 502 again as I’m not 100% about how to recover from this error and might need assistance from Siteground admin support. If there’s little/no risk then great – otherwise I’ll arrange for Siteground admin support to be on standby so that downtime can be minimised. Let me have your thoughts…

Thanks for your reply, but….
When I search for ‘tools’ no icons are found!
When I enter ‘tool’, all I can see is the Toolbox icon:
[ image is screen capture taken in the Block Editor ]
This has me mystified, and without any idea of why this should happen or how to track down the ‘problem’ !!
As you can see – I’ve used many other Font Awesome Icons without difficulty…
Any advice ??
