I was just about to ask the same, so I second this request.
Please add this to the selectable options.

This sounds just about what I’m searching for, but I need a little help here.

I tried updating the functions.gallery.php in the plugin directory which did not go that well at all.
Is it the main functions.php under /includes you mean should be edited?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m right now mostly interested in the possibility and consequences of enabling the year/date-saving option.

Thank you, I’ll try that plugin, but no the main purpose is to not have all files in one same folder, for example to make it easier when I backup the content files.
