Yeah, I installed DesktopServer (the free one), which does the same thing, but without the server hassle. It doesn’t work perfectly (I keep getting error codes when I try to install things from my theme), but it’s enough for me to look at the theme’s demo material while working on my website.

Thank you Tara. I think I’ve read all of these already. Anyone used MAMP and experienced this? How did you manage to get it to work? Thanks!!
