I’d say that the only options you’d need for placing the form on a page or post via shortcode are the same ones that you have on the widget, namely being able to customize the text that goes above the form fields, the button label, and the placeholder text in the form fields. One recommendation I do have is not to put the form in an unordered list. That’s the one problem I have with using the widget on a page. Being in an unordered list, the form is shifted to the left rather than aligning with the other content on the page.

Regarding the main problem that the OP had, I’ve also run into the issue of the email form field being too long, though, for me, it’s only too long on smaller screen sizes, when the width of the sidebar menu is narrower. I fixed it by changing the size of the id_txtEmailAddr field to 24 from 30, but that change would be undone when an update is installed. You might want to consider either reducing the size of that field or adding the ability for the user to specify the size. Obviously, the latter option would be much harder to do.

I really hope that you do add shortcode functionality soon. My site switches to a mobile device page layout when viewed on a smartphone. When it does, left and right sidebars do not show, meaning that any widgets in those sidebars also do not show. Since the Post Notif widget is in the left sidebar on my site, anyone viewing the site on a smartphone will not have access to the subscription form.

As a workaround, I have installed the Widgets on Pages plugin, which enabled me to add the Post Notif widget to a subscription page.

Yes, it does appear to be connected to TinyMCE, but the warning is only there when your plugin is enabled. Disabling it makes the warning go away. I’ve left the plugin enabled on one of my sites, and, so far, there haven’t been any problems, so it may be that the warning can be ignored, but there are probably a lot of people who wouldn’t want to take the chance.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I tested it out, and that appears to work. Since posting my original message, however, I decided to go a different route, which appears to be working out well. But I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Too many plugin authors don’t do that. And this may help other users who want the same fix.

Since I know that this will probably be suggested, “manually” applying a class to every image via the Advanced Options in Image Details isn’t going to work for the site on which I’m using this plugin. It’s not my site. It belongs to a nonprofit organization to which I am donating some free Web site design work. Once my job is done, others will be adding and changing content on the site, many of whom probably don’t even know what CSS is, let alone how to use it. To try to explain to them that, every time they add a photo, they need to apply a CSS class, would not work out well. In fact, it wouldn’t work for most of my client’s sites since the clients are the ones who are adding content.

I found out what was causing the problem. It was another plugin: WEN Responsive Columns. I don’t know why, especially why it only caused that weird spacing issue when there were links added to the images, but disabling that plugin fixed the problem. Fortunately, it’s a plugin I don’t need.

Thanks for all your time and help. I wish that all plugin authors took the time to respond to posts.

Guess what? It isn’t an issue with 4.2.2 after all. It’s the links! Adding links to the images causes that extra 20 pixels to be added. I updated to 4.2.2 right before adding the links, and it didn’t occur to me that that might be the problem instead. Can this be fixed? I want the links, but I hate that big gap between rows.

I installed version 3.0.5, but resizing images still doesn’t work. There is a new error message now:

Warning: implode(): Invalid arguments passed in /plugins/Simple-image-sizes-3.0.5/templates/options-media.php on line 41

There is plenty of disk space. I was unable to find any info on file size limitations. I did, however, get a notice from my Web site host that I’d come very close to maxing out the limit on my CPU Usage and Physical Memory Usage in a 24-hour period. Between all the attempts to make a backup with various plugins, I’d apparently hit those limits. So, it’s possible that is the reason for the problem. I can try again on another day and see if I have the same problem. I’ll let you know what happens.

Yeah, it doesn’t work for me either, and it appears that this is yet another abandoned plugin since the author is not responding to issues posted here. I’d post something on his site’s forum, but it’s not in English.

    WP Version 3.6.

I don’t see how it could be any of the other plugins causing the problem. I temporarily disabled the ones that wouldn’t affect the functioning of the site. As for the rest, every one of them is also installed and activated on the site that your plugin does work on, the one that’s an older version of WP. It seems pretty unlikely that a plugin could cause problems with yours on one site but not on another. That could only happen if it was some weird combination of a plugin and the newest version of WP that’s causing the problem.

Just in case someone else runs into the same problem, here is the list of the plugins that I did not temporarily disable. Again, every one of these is also on the other site I tested.

    Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades
    Extra-shortcodes
    My Category Order
    Page Links To
    Ultimate TinyMCE
    WP Jump Menu

I’m not really expecting you to do anything. I just thought you should know about the problem. Though I really would like to use your plugin (it being the only complete backup program I found that also does the restore) I can do without it, whereas I cannot do without any of the other plugins I have installed. So if it did turn out to be an incompatibility with another plugin, I would still have do without yours.

Thank you very much for your kind offer to help fix this. If this was a site for myself that I’m working on, I might take you up on your offer, but I’m building this for someone else, and I need to get it done and copied over to her Web site. Also, in testing the slideshow on my Android phone (by going to your example page), I found that it wasn’t working properly. Though I could see the images and the thumbnails, the slideshow itself was not working. Clicking on an image would bring up the next picture, but it would not scroll through them automatically, and the captions were not popping up.

I have gone a completely different route using WP jQuery Lightbox, which works on mobile devices, and laying the photos and captions out using a columns plugin that will collapse to a single column on small screens, something that WP’s gallery feature will not do. It’s not an ideal solution, but it will work.

Thanks again. What with all the plugins that are abandoned by their authors, it’s nice to find one with a conscientious author who will respond to questions and problems.

I’m glad to hear that. That did not work for me. I guess different fixes work for different situations. People should definitely try what you did first.

As I said before, this is not my fix. I’m only posting here what I found in another post. You’ll find the original post at:

I was able to track down the problem. It was being caused by a tiny code error in the contents of one of the left column widgets.
