I’m trying to figure out the same thing — I set posts to go up every morning, but there’s no way to know if the headlines and sample text will fit into my homepage template correctly until they actually go up (I can quickly post them and then take them back down, but this is kind of a pain). I’ve yet to find a plugin for a homepage preview that incorporates a new post — if anybody has any tips, I’d love to hear them.

Alternately, if someone could help me figure out how to set my homepage so that it just shows blog posts with a certain tag, I can use that to sort which posts will take priority. Any help is appreciated!

A clean reintall couldn’t hurt.

You might check to see if your server on Host Papa is running a new enough version of PHP for wordpress. Even after I got mine installed and working I had all sorts of bugs, and finally gave up and tried installing it on my girlfriend’s web hosting service (Dreamhost). They have one-button install already set up for wordpress, and on their servers it works much better.

The point is, their system may not be set up to do what you need it to do.

Working on it — I’m a graphic designer rather than a programmer, but I’m having a little success dicking with the css, and learning a lot as I go. Thanks for your help.

WordPress 2.7.1 — freshly installed yesterday.

I searched my comments.php file and did not come up with “wp_list_comments” anywhere.

I just discovered that it’s something to do with my theme, though — I switched themes and this fixed the problem. I’m not ready to abandon it yet, though (this will eventually be a commercial site and I’ve already started putting in my own logos and such). Is this something I’ll likely have to take up with the theme’s designer?

It’s not a service I got specifically for wordpress — I’ve got a few html sites hosted there, and since it’s already paid for I figured I’d throw my new wordpress stuff up there too. I just created a subdomain on an existing site for testing, so apparently had to do some massaging.

Try contacting tech support at Host Papa. I had the same problem installing wordpress at hostexcellence, and after a few tech support emails back and forth, they informed me that I had to go into the web options for my hosting service, enable “Directory Indexes,” and input index.php into the text field. (They also had me rename my index.html file (which was there before I installed wordpress index.html_default.)
