    olddocks,
    Thanks for responding! Yes, I have done some searching and I have seen lots of magazine themes. It’s great to have so many options, but now I’m wondering what people’s experiences have been with the magazine themes I’m considering.

    By the way, I added a new theme to my list of candidates:
    Wynton Magazine

    I really like Branford and Wynton themes — they are just my style! However, What I don’t quite know is how easy they are to work with (customizing, writing and managing, etc.) compared with other magazine themes.

    Thanks,
    Matthew

    I just upgraded to 2.3.1, and I cannot get the Sidebar Widgets to work. When the author says that it is “not required” for 2.2 and that it is compatible up to 2.1.3, what does that mean?

    Is this no longer usable for 2.3.1?

    This is one of my favorite plugins. Can someone explain how to make it work in 2.3.1?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    whooami,
    Thanks for the help! I checked the version.php file that is on my site.

    I think the problem might be that when I upgraded, I did not replace certain files because I customized them. For example, I made several tweaks to the styles.css file and I was trying to avoid having to do all those changes again!

    It sounds like I will have to re-do the changes to those files every time I upgrade, unless I’m missing something here.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

    whooami,
    This is the information that appears in the wp-includes/version.php file:

    $wp_version = '2.1.2';
    $wp_db_version = 4773;

    So…
    My page displays 2.1.3
    The version.php file says 2.1.2
    And I downloaded 2.2

    This is very confusing! Can someone help me figure out what it means?

    Can anyone help me with this? My blog software was updated, but it still displays the old version number.

    Do I need to uninstall the whole thing and start again?

    Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies!

    I can tell already that WordPress attracts a creative crowd. That’s rather intangible, but it does help me as I consider which Web-design tool fits with the kind of work I do. As a writer, I’m focused more on content than technicalities (although I’m not too shabby with the latter).

    Looking forward to joining the WordPress community.

    Thanks again,
    Matthew
