In reply to: Dashboard white screenI Jackie,
I’ve tried logging in and I’ve renamed the plugin folder and nothing is resolved.
I know I shouldn’t do this but whilst I was in the cpanel area I thought about locating the mischievous “Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_json_encode() in /home/onlinese/public_html/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 670” and deleting “wp_json_encode” It appeared in two places so I deleted them and I can now get into my dashboard. However a bunch of other things don’t work not and I can’t even search for new themes, etc.
I saved the original misc.php and have now re-uploaded that so it’s back to where it was before I started meddling and I can no longer get into the dashboard. But they key definitely seems to be that little bit of code.
But anyway, I need to resist ‘trying stuff’ as I will make the situation much worse. After writing this response I will tie my hands up so they can’t press anything until someone like you that knows what they’re talking about gives me further orders!

In reply to: Dashboard white screenAh yes sorry Jackie.
Avast is a free version.
Ha ha, don’t get arrested!
5quidhost just responded with this, “Hello,
I’m afraid not – it suggests an compatibility with a plugin or theme somewhere along the line, so you may find it worthwhile to move any themes you’re using out of wp-content/themes so that WP will
fallback to its built-in ones. Please connect to port 21 and use explicit TLS, though please note that this is likely to break firewall connection-tracking and may break uploads after you’re connected a while.”
Anyway, I’ve just made things worse. I went into C-panel and took my theme out and now my website doesn’t even show up to people trying to view it.
I’m not sure whichs ettings I should have on their intial email to me. All it seems to say in a section about FTP is,
“###### FTP ######You may use this IP – 5.102.184.19 – to upload your files via FTP until your
domain nameserver update is complete, after which you should use:https://ftp.onlinesessiondrum.com
To have files appear on your website, you should upload them to the ‘public_html’ directory on your account.
You should use the main username and password above to log in via FTP, and configure your FTP client to use ‘passive’ mode.”
There is other information about other parts of their service to me but I didn’t want to paste it all on a public forum.

In reply to: Dashboard white screenHello Jackie, ha, Are you sick of helping me yet? And it’s me that feels bad that I’ve somehow ended up using your time so much this week!
I’ve emailed 5quidhost and will let you know when they respond.
I also tried what you suggested in Filezilla. It took me through a network configuration wizard and didn’t seem to work. It always seemed to time out, even though it was only active for several seconds. Does any of this help you?

In reply to: Dashboard white screenHello Jackie, Sorry I’ve been so slow getting back to you. I was side tracked by the usual over indulgence and family activities and was banned from any work related activity until today.
Thanks again for your response.
The security software that I have running here is Avast. And I’m afraid I don’t know what shell is in the website world.
So do you think Avast is playing it’s part in this not working?

In reply to: Dashboard white screenHi Jackie,
Yes you are right that we can’t know everything and it’s good to be learning and increasing knowledge of this web world. My host is 5quidhost. I have downloaded filezilla and am trying to connect with it but am having problems. I’ve tried a few different ports and some look more promising than others. But even the ones that say they are connecting seem to immediately say I’m timed out.
But overall is seems to say can’t connect to server (as seen below in some of the messages I’m seeing within Filezilla.
Am I doing something wrong?

In reply to: Dashboard white screenHi Jackie. I don’t actually know what an FTP client is or how to use one. I went into my cpanel and into file manager and found the directory that you had mentioned..
Is that wrong? If so could you point me in the right direction for the FTP client and pls excuse my lack of knowledge!

In reply to: Dashboard white screenHi Jackie McBride. Please don’t apologise – I’m incredibly grateful that you’re taking the time to respond.
I have followed your steps but have become stuck. When I do the upload part it won’t let me upload the folder. It wants to open the folder which has several folders as well as several files within it. I can then just select a single file at a time to upload.
Am I doing something quite stupid?

In reply to: Dashboard white screenHello Jackie McBride.
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I’m a novice to say the least so I will do whatever you suggest. If I reupload WordPress do I have to start the site from scratch or will it remember all pages, posts, images, etc?
I don’t think I know how to do it. Is it easy for you to explain in simple steps to me, or is the process explained elsewhere that you could point me to?
Thanks again for your response.
