In reply to: I want my blog posts to be on another page – not the Home PageI learned a lot by trying to employ your method and then found that this is covered in Settings/Reading. One selects “Front Page Displays” – a static page. I picked the page I wanted and then had the selection, “Posts Page” and selected what I needed.
This did the trick! Thanks for taking the time to help and I am glad to see that it did turn out to be a ton easier than my other source suggested.

In reply to: Admin Password never sent to emailHey – thanks 4 the info. I – of course – at that point – couldn’t even get into the dashboard. As it turned out – I got on another computer and it had the password saved… so got it.
WP still never sent the pw email in order to reset the pw.

In reply to: How Much of This Is Possible?Great name! You can do it!
ThemeForest has a ton of inexpensive themes… you can get some help by getting started with a theme that does what you want.

In reply to: Menu formatting – Non-alphabeticalThanks 4 the tip.
I did figure it out by adding a custom menu and then designating that menu as the one my website supports. The guy who developed my template might have laid the foundation 4 this – I don’t know.
I checked in another site I did previously, and found my answer. Thx 4 replying.

In reply to: Naming PagesAries –
In my work on another subject, I realized that this might be of benefit to you re: your pages. Since you’re new – I don’t know if you r familiar with the templates that people create (and sell). They r in addition to the regular templates you can buy. I found a great template for $30 at themeforest.com. Anyway, I mention this because the guy who created the template assists newbies like us. He’ll answer questions (of course not too many questions…).
Anyway, check ouot this page – he covers the topic of ‘custom category page.’ It might help:

In reply to: Naming PagesI’m pretty new too. However, I found a video that explains taxonomies. A new word 4 most of us – but it will help to explain some of the ideas behind categories. Setting things up correctly right from the beginning will allow you to do a much better job of organizing your posts. As well, if you understand categories and taxonomies from the beginning, you will set things up in a way that will assist your readers in finding specific groups of posts that they are wanting to read.
The video should be a big help:

In reply to: Multiple Blogs or Multiple TablesThe two installations solution might have been from years ago.
I need to have all my actual posts in one area and my other ‘posts’ that don’t have dates or comments in another area.
I don’t want them to co-mingle. So, with custom posts could I have a page called ‘blog’ that only has posts that are customized as a special ‘type’ of post?
Thanks 4 your help!

In reply to: Are 11,000 too many entries in my db to consider using wordpress?I’m a newbie and I love new words…
It seems to me that this would be a very important time for you to learn more about ‘taxonomies’ in WP. (I didn’t check out each post above – but I didn’t note the word being used)
I stumbled upon the below video and it has been a life-saver! This guy covers categories that you can add (in a slightly different way than simply adding a category). It is very much worth checking out before you complete adding all your 11,000 items or nailing down how people find what is where in your db.

In reply to: Organizing pages on Menu BarAnd ‘Padow!’ – it’s fixed.
Thanks 4 directing me to your site and the WP video that illustrates how to organize pages. I was afraid I’d have to organize them via some type of code… It was wise of WP to add this feature.
Again, thanks a million 4 the fast reply.

I am not right at my WP dashboard. Do I also have an option for width? That’s the biggest problem right now.

that did it! I found that area in nav.css. Thanks you SO MUCH.

In reply to: Items in 'Blog' impacted Titleesmi –
thanks 4 posting an idea. I couldn’t find this area specifically in the style.css. I tried a # of things like making the page wider in style.css but that didn’t help. I tried a variety of different padding elements. Am I correct to assume that I need to fix the navigation bar? Or do I make the page wider?
It still isn’t working. Any other suggestions?
thanks so much, Marty
