I have Photoshop, Fireworks and PSP – had to get them for school – and that’s the only time I’ve used them.
My graphics program of choice is NeoPaint – https://www.neosoftware.com/npw.html – 30 day free trial, then $49.95 (It was only $20AUD when I got it a couple of years ago).
I also use IrfanView.

There sure are some great plug-ins out there. I’ve been trying to track down one called ‘pagebar’ – does anyone know of it?

As you have a list at the top of recent posts, why not reduce the actual number of posts shown on the front page?

It looks nice, an appropriate style. I’d go with the ‘fixed’ background as well. Also, the text for “Read the other person’s blog” could be lighter.

Thanks smalls, I’ve made it up myself. I’d be quite happy to release it as a theme, but I’d really need to tidy it up a bit, and I’d need to write some notes about how I’ve used the plug-ins to get the home page as it is. I’ve got a week of Uni to go – I can put it together after that if you’re happy to wait. Actually, if I could just get ‘multiple loops’ to work, it would be a lot simpler I’m sure.

Oops, sorry, I think I’ve just worked it out – gee, I love the Codex – and, of course, WordPress itself – the possibilities just seem to be endless.

So it’s possible to have a completely different look for each category? Is it possible to have an index/home page that not only provides links to individual categories, but also shows title and date of the latest post from each category? For an example of what I’m trying to do, have a look at work in progress – on the right, I have cat1 for site news and cat2 for links to news stories. These two categories are in the one install of WP. Then on the left, I have a list of other parts of the site that really could be just further categories, but at this stage, they are each a separate WP install.
