ronco – my comment in response to your comment was obviously constructive – so now you’ve started doing a “bit” of research on media publishing – well done (but sorry, I’ve been there already) – however, my comment in response to your comment was also political – you obviously feel advertising is a valid component in popular media – I, on the other hand, disagree – fair enough – there will always be some who think ads are cool, while others feel ads are merely promoting “rugs” and profits above content – your choice. Personally, I’d rather see more content and less ads – but then, that’s just me.

qoute ronco: “Advertising has always been part of newspaper publishing”

Um, so when newspapers were first published back in late 18th century France as a precursor to the French Revolution, they included advertising? I don’t think so – advertising is a ‘modern’ construct – advertising has very little to do with the dissemination of information – rather, advertising has a lot to do with the sale of products – it is a capitalist adjunct. Advertising is perverse.

A school or Community site could justify advertising as sponsorship – that isn’t too bad – providing the ‘sponsorship’ is relative – plonking Google ads on anything simply because it’s what blog-sites do is pathetic – it undermines the political freedom which the Internet and blogging provides.

Why destroy such a good layout/design with Google ads? Why does anyone putting up a website destroy it with Google ads? I don’t get it – I think this is one of the most inspiring “newspaper”-style sites I’ve seen for a while, yet the intrusive, pervasive, obnoxious element is still there – the “Google ad”. Are you really gonna make money out of Google, or is Google gonna make money out of you? I think you have a very good, clean “newspaper” design – it falls down because of the Google ad element – it’s so “cheesy” – and ultimatly, cheap. Otherwise, very cool – well done.

You need to check your spelling.

I stripped 4images right down, then set up a page template that includes a 4images ‘random image’ script, which you can find at the 4images forum, and 4images itself in an iframe. Admittedly not, perhaps, the best solution – but it works for me: https://www.aussiediary.com/?page_id=140

Do you have a link to the “theme” in question, or is this just another clerical spam to your own site?

Gee, thanks Mike, appreciate the compliment.

I like it, though I think the content column could be a little wider.

I didn’t even wait for the ‘splash/crass’ page to finish loading before I closed the window.

I use both – tables and css – cause I can’t get the layout to work properly in IE, the browser most of my visitors use – and ultimately, that’s what it must come down to – if I only had a small number of IE users, if most of my visitors were using firefox, I’d ditch the tables no worries.

I am proudly powered by WordPress.

I agree with Marc – this is a violation – what a nerve! I just tried to leave a comment, in your support, on the plagiarist’s site and got redirected to some other rubbish. The token credit link this person provides at the end of “your writing” is just that – token. The credit should be stipulated at the outset and the body of the text presented as a “blockquote” – you have been plagiarised and, in my neck of the woods (Australia) at least, you have grounds to have that site shut down.

    url?

I reckon WP would be ideal and with little customisation. One way might be to set up a new category for each edition. You could, if ya liked, then have sub-categories or ‘sections’ in each. Then you could customise the ‘loop’ so that only the ‘current’ edition/category is shown. Then have a link/tab to list all categories/editions. You could even have a sidebar section showing a random archived article from any or all editions – the possibilities with WP are pretty much limitless – there are heaps of different ways to use it as is – then there are heaps of plug-ins that take it even further.
