Here is what we did and found:

My client told me about the customer restriction. She thought that it would allow anyone who was not a wholesale customer to use the coupon. I explained that it actually did was restrict anyone who was not logged in as a customer from using the coupon.

1. She removed the restriction. The problem was not fixed.
2. We deactivated Smart Coupons, and the problem was fixed.

This scenario shows two UX issues:

1. The misunderstanding that my client had. I believe that this is a problem that WooCommerce should fix.
2. The poor UX of showing a place to enter a coupon code, when a coupon code cannot function. I’m not sure whose code this is.

My client wanted Smart Coupons to be able to use the Buy X Get Y Free function. Because of the failure of her Black Friday coupon, she will not be trying Smart Coupon until after the holidays.

After I sent the message above, I learned that the coupon was set to only work for customers (this is a site that also has wholesale). Is it possible that the system that shows the coupon entry and allows entry for everyone (because there may be coupons good for everyone), but does not carry the coupon code processing through to completion if the code has a customer restriction on it, and if the viewer isn’t logged in?

Do I understand you correctly that you don’t have 3rd party plugins that are installed with your theme? Many themes come with other plugins, so I am just checking.

Your words, “So in this case that you custom code how your page is developed, such incompatibility is not a surprise.”

I think that the best way to head off the problem would be to state on the main plugin page that your plugin doesn’t work on sites with child theme CSS or PHP customizations. Then there would not have been any surprises on our part!

I see that you have read an awful lot into my reply that is not there.

I will not waste your time or mine going through your answer bit by bit. But, I will give you one hint in how you have not paid attention or asked questions before making assumptions. You wrote, “So in this case that you custom code how your page is developed, such incompatibility is not a surprise.” You did not ask whether the whole site is custom built or whether the customizations are in the CSS.

As such, I will be sure not to use plugins from your organization in the future!

We are not using a page builder at all. I custom code any needed customizations. But, the theme the client chose is Avadanta Trade.

Is there somewhere I should be sending screenshots to?

This question may be outside the scope of your answer. There are a number of sources for icon fonts. The theme has a subdirectory for Font Awesome. Can I assume that the whole library is available for use then?

I apologize for the delay in replying. Unfortunately, the plugin you suggested is not user friendly in the amount of steps it takes to disable and enable plugins.

Since the site is a staging site, I just went ahead and disabled all the plugins, except Modula. Even with a working URL in the URL field and the “Hide from Lightbox” in the on setting, the images just open in Lightbox.

My client does have the Pro version.

I would suggest changing the name of that menu item from hover, which is ambiguous because it is the name of a CSS pseudoclass.
