In reply to: You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.I think first of all you should change the permissions on the all wordpress folder, to something like 755. (recursive odification).
Second, permission to access a page depends of the database, specifically wp-users (this is where you can find)phpmyadmin is NOT a file. It is a programm just like wordpress. It is usually pre installed on most servers. If not, then go to the page and download it.
Now, I would suggest you re-run the installation. For that you need to slightly edit your wp-config.file, and change the database prefix to somehting else. It will force wordpress to rerun the installation.

In reply to: Error establishing a database connectiona database is a place where the data of your blog (options, pages, articles, etc) are stored. It’s different from your server. On most hosts it has to be created by a specific link (either “my databse” or something equivalent), and when setting it, you create a datababse, with a name, a user, with a login and its password (all three different from your ftp access).
Administrating an own server without even knowing what databases are is not an easy job, and imho you should first learn, and then go to your own server… or find someone to administrate it, and ask him to set up the database and give you the information.

In reply to: WordPress A CMS? Wish It Was…Seasonal Content IssueAnother option would be to use “organize series” plugin with “series publisher” . Caution : if you publish and unpublish a story, it will change the permalink IF your permalink structure is based on date. If not, I think it’s the perfect tool for you.
With would you not use custom fields ? It would be a little bit hassle at the beginning, changing all the posts to add a custom field, but then you are able to run queries based on the value of this custom field

In reply to: Total Newbie needs help BAD!It looks like they are on you sidebar ??
You have a way to customize your sidebar with widgets. When no widget is installed, defaults appear, and then you just have to put a widget to have only what you want. You can drag and drop widgets from the section Theme / Widget in your admn panel

In reply to: Please help Wikipedia think that WordPress is secureAs ClaytonJames stated, Wikipedia does not accept opinions, but only facts backed up by external sources.
The article lists facts, and rather old ones. I’d say that if end of 2009 there had been no security problem with WordPress since end of 2007, it is even a golden record.

In reply to: Effective way to give media credit? It is a little bit more difficult, except if the author of the picture or media IS a registered author in your blog. Because the feature you described is based on wordpress database.
What you can always do is to use the caption feature to include the author name, and a link to any page he asks for (for example the one where you found the work)If the author is a registered author in your blog, it easier because you can use all author() tags (look at the codex)
A media is a post in the table, so it has an author. To display it on the author page “just” need to modify the query to include these kind of posts. Which should be rather easy if you have a little programming knowledge.

In reply to: Hiding a Div from an ExcerptThe problem is that the excerpt is removing all html tags.
So the solution is to write a function that looks for these div (better to identify them with a class), and with a hook, removes them from the excerpt before loading.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: How to improve page visibility?Possible. And usually these things should be handled in the robots.txt, not in the header ??

In reply to: 2.9 Schedule Posts “missed”Don’t you think it has been tested ?
And I’m sorry for you, but if YOU follow the clear instructions of always doing a back up of files and database before upgrading, it is only a question of 15 minutes MAXIMUM to put back your site in its former state.Instead of twitting their unsatisfaction, people should try to apply basic procedures.

In reply to: WP as CMS / Related LinksHi,
you’ve got some plugin for internal related links, usually based on categories or tags.
You also have a plugin that makes a summary of all the links in your article (Link summarizer)Finally, if you want to enter external links that are not in the article, you can either use custom fields, or if you have a lot of them, you can even add a table, all depends of what you want to do ??

In reply to: WP 2.5 Post SlugsUnfortunatly, when you edit the post slug it does not change the value in the database. I hit “save” and it does not change the value in the database.
I tried that with a post already saved, and while creating a post, and the result is the same, even if I edit my permalink, it stays to the standard value. My permalink structure /%postname%-%post_id% and it works perfectly fine on 2.3

In reply to: I don’t like the way 2.5 is goingWhat I really miss in this version and it is for me a definitive no-go is that I can’t find anywhere the post and page nicename fields.
Actually, you have to save the post to the the field for the permalink, and here you can modify your slug.
Two steps instead of one.
