In reply to: New languages not available in settingsI think you are absolutely right ?? I moved the files and it works now.
I am wondering though what the language files in themes/themename/languages are for. Just for theme specific phrases?

In reply to: Difference primary sites/subsites.. and some general info neededThanks a lot for your reply! I understand primary and subsites are sperate.. just wondering if there is any difference between 2 subsites or subsite vs primary.
I’ve installed WP in a subfolder. The main site resides in /blog/ and the subsites in /blog/de/, /blog/fr/ etc.
I don’t need (and really don’t want) a language switch page, as I am implementing this in an existing website, where the visitor already has a language (or otherwise it’s determined by the browser’s language setting).
So I guess in that case it’s safe to use the main site as 1 of the 4 language sites?

In reply to: Multiple languages-implement new blog in existing siteFYI: I have now installed multisite and will add the multisite language switcher soon. If anyone can tell me more about these things, I would be very grateful:
– the existing site detects the user’s preferred language. I want the blog to use that, so a visitor does not need to choose a language again solely for the blog. I need the blog to listen to the website’s language, and the website needs to find out what the links to the same post are, but in the other 3 languages.
– comments should be placed by logged in visitors of the website (so that means I will not be using the users table from wordpress but the one from the existing site)
I would be happy with some information on how/where WP gets the language and user, so I can modify this in the template. Or is it beyond the template? If possible, I’d rather keep my WP installation updatable.

In reply to: Is it possible to install WPMU in a sub-directory?I just did the same thing, and if I understand correctly you can’t use subdomains/domains for your subsites. As far as I can see the installation is working like a charm in the subdirectory.

In reply to: 1 blog, 2 websites… = multisite?!Thanks for your answer! You’re right identical content isn’t good for SEO and might be confusing… I found that out too while googling for more info on this. So basically: I am abandoning this idea for the reasons you mentioned as well.
