  • I am having the same problem…

If a static page cannot use the permalink structure for posts, how can one ensure that the page is properly indexed by search engines.

e.g. My site consists of about 15 pages. I set one of my pages as a static front page. All pages except the front page have a page title showing in the browser bar as well as a permalink.

As I want search engines to properly index my site, I’d like to have a page title / permalink showing for my home (static) page. Is there a way to do this?

I just noticed there’s no permalink displaying under the page title when I go to edit the static home page….any idea how I could set a permalink this for the static page?
Without a proper title/permalink showing I’m concerned that the most important page of my site will be overlooked by the google crawlers.

Not sure what All in one SEO is…..I’m using the Prosense theme, but I uploaded a header image and did not type anything in the blog name and description under general settings as if I do it appears to float over my header image.

My front page is a static page with a title. All the other pages show the post name at the top of the page (browser bar) as well as in the URL. Except for the homepage, which only shows URL in both places…

I’m using WP 2.7 and do not see the permalink displayed beneath the page title when in edit mode. Is there anything else I need to do?

When I created my site I didn’t realise the default permalink structure wasn’t the best choice in terms of SEO. I have about 15 pages and would like to change from page numbers to page titles in the permalink. What’s the easiest way to do this? The site is only about ten days old and not yet showing up in Google searches.

I’ve got the same problem. My front page displays the URL as the title. The theme I’m using does not have a general_template.php file, so I could not implement the solution above.

    Thanks, that’s a great help.

But, say I want the title “Pages” to appear above the list of pages in my sidebar.

But I’m also using text widgets to place Amazon ad code, a Google search bar, etc.

In the first case I want the header to remain above the widget; in the second case, I don’t.

Here I am, back with the answer to my own question (one of them, at least). Here it is in case anyone else is looking to do the same thing:

To shorten the length of the page on which the amazon store appears, just modify the height attributes in the code for the aStore generated by Amazon. In my case, the default was 4000; I reduced this to 900 and it’s now the perfect length.

Still looking for a way put something in the whitespace to the right if possible, i.e. my blog’s “pages” sidebar menu if possible.

Here’s another terrific article explaining how to do this (link to article).. The instructions were super easy to follow and my store is now up!

However, a blank sidebar appears on the right side of the page. I’d like to have the regular blog sidebar appear here, with links to the other pages on my site.

Does anyone know how I would code this?

Also, the page is so long it seems to go on forever….how do I move the bottom up?

Sorry if these are basic questions. I’m totally new to all of this.

OK, well I found this interesting article, in case anyone else is wondering.

    Thanks for the quick answer!

This indeed addresses the issue of adding an astore.

In my case, I’ve built my site using the Prosense theme by DoshDosh, and this theme has two sidebars, one for navigating pages, etc. and the other for google ads.

So my next question is, is there a way to override the current template to create a single, special page to imbed the Amazon store in the page, using the full width of the page?

If not, I guess I’m going to find a new theme…

I would also like to know whether this can be done.

    Please, anyone?

I have tried using Firefox instead of Safari; I can now SEE the code, but there’s no button at the bottom to update the file, so I still can’t make changes.

I hope someone can help me figure this out.

Not sure whether this is related, but I’m also getting strange error messages when I try to update pages, i.e. “Safari could not open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection.” If I reload that error page, I get redirected to my wordpress page edit menu, with my changes saved.
