  • Agree with schulte.

index.html takes precedence over index.php, so your site will
    load the html index instead.

Rename index.html to something like old_index.html if you need
to save it, or just delete it all together if you don’t need it.

Then, when going to your domain https://www.fearlessbloger.com,
    you’ll see your blog.

    I like blue. ??

    I’d say overall it works.
I went for a quick peek, and
here I am 20 minutes later.

Sorry to hear about the airport issue.
Guess that reminds me why I’ve still not
switched to the dark side. I’ll keep my PPC
    stuff for a while. ??

Oh, and I wonder if those community users feel
the least bit cheated out of their 13k? Since a little
over a week later here came bootcamp. oops! lol

Anyway, you’re right, IE does suck. But hey, the site’s
    pretty clean with the Fox!

Might be a bit overboard, but once you had it running, you could use Coppermine or Gallery2. Both of which have exactly what you’re looking for.

I don’t know if this would be an answer, or how often they would change their settings, but there was a rotating template hack running around here at one point in time.

In a nut shell, it lets you specify the what, when, where, why, and how of your themes. I used it on a site for a friend last summer, and had it set a different theme for each day of the week.

If your authors aren’t going to make changes often, once you have it set up is should be pretty simple to keep going.

I don’t believe this is being suggested as the ONLY method in helping tighten up a site.

It is true, that obscurity is not an answer to security.

However, it is part of an overall security plan.

By simply having the current hard coded directories as a variable, then defining them in the config file, it at least allows someone the option of renaming them to something else.

It isn’t a cure, or something that couldn’t be figured out, but the case with most people looking to ‘harm’ a site are looking for an easy target. If they can hit 10 easy targets, or 1 or 2 more difficult ones, they always go the route where they stand to gain the most exposure and return on their time.

Like I said, it’s one option in a list. Part of an overall plan.
Nothing is fool proof, there is always a hole somewhere. I don’t care who you are, there is always something.

It comes down to making a hard target. And if you can even prevent 80% of your problems now, you’re still a lot farther along than you were.

So is it a complete answer? No.

It’s just another tool to use in the overall plan.

That will be quite a task. Have fun.

Sure, why not. That’s essentially what the template tags are doing.

Sounds like the server you’re on is a little over-worked. :-\

Try disabling all your plugins, then readding them one by one, and see if one is causing the problem.

That seems a little high in the number of queries though.

@bkatzel, kinda @ vkaryl too. Let’s throw Spencerp in there too… lol

I’m right in vkaryl’s position too. I’m on a ranch that’s about 3 miles outside of ‘town’. Town happens to be about 800-900, on a good day.

Our phone system is antequated, and it was bought by a ‘insert many mant expletives here’ phone company, who has no intention on upgrading the equipment. If it breaks, they’ll fix it with junk. The people in town don’t even have DSL. They do however have cable, thanks to Cox. There were wireless repeaters around, but the ones I could have hit we’re lower in the terrain, and so am I. So for now, satellite would be my only option as well. However I run into two problems.

    1) The few people I’ve spoken with have said the upload times aren’t much better, if at all. The upload speed is really what I need more than download.

    2) Like spencer, I’m a cheap bastard too. lol

    Exactly as described.

    Looks nice to me.

Initial message sent, FYI, in case you would like to edit out your info above. ??

Sure you can. With anything new there is always a little bit of a learning curve, but it’s pretty simple and straight forward.

There are a ton of themes out there to choose from, which you can simply upload to your site then click to activate through the admin area.

As time progresses, and your knowledge increases, you may even find yourself writing your own custom theme.

But to get you started, you can’t go wrong with WordPress.

Plus, if you ever have a problem, there’s a great community here where someone is always happy to help someone in need out. ??

IMHO, the idea is interesting, but would need refined.

Instead of custom names for files, it would be more feasible perhaps to just customize the directory names. These could be a part of the config file, along with the current options, then instead of a hard coded directory path, simply replace it with a variable.

Then, instead of logins being processed and handled in the adim dir, they could be ran through the main installation directory. This would keep the relavent directory names out of the URI, and further obscure the directories used.

Kind of a half and half. Not fool proof, but maybe a more balanced alternative.

    Banned?

Hmmm… We do have a few IP’s banned that have caused problems in the past, but what’s the odd’s that you happen to be using one of those now? lol

    Funny world.

Yes, it does show table tags. That’s just the way our template’s are set up for our theme. However, nothing that you couldn’t customize to suit your needs.

In fact, if you did happen to do that, our theme developer would probably become your biggest fan. He’s been wanting to get some themes out there that are tableless, but just hasn’t (unfortunately) had the time to put into it with all the other stuff we pile on him. ??

Yes, it’s free and open source. I posted the link, but in case you missed it it’s https://www.lunabyte.net
