thank you for bringing our attention to this! This is indeed a very old plugin and not actively maintained by us anymore.

But this issue was so quickly to resolve, that we actually pushed an update for that.

if you are on a page that uses Quicklink (like luehrsen-heinrich.de at the moment) you can open the inspector and check the ‘network’ tab for results. If do NOT hit disable cache you should see the pages being fetched from the ‘prefetch cache’ and delivered in about 1 or 2 ms.

slowing down the site is highly unlikely, but possible. If this plugin is used with a caching plugin, the additional hits on the server should not impact performance. But if resource intensive, uncached targets are being prefetched, a performance loss is to be expected.
