So I found it. Yur plugin deletes the featured image only when the plugin “NextGEN Gallery” is active at the same time. But I need the galery plugin. Any suggestions?

It works OK when I write a new post, set up its expiration and then the featured image. Once I try to add expiration into an existing post with a featured image, the image is deleted. I don’t use many plugins, so I will try disable them one-by-one and give you a report.
