You know what happens is that a lot of coders / programmers address to a problem on a technical basis and create a wonderful solution in the form of a wordpress plugin.

Unfortunately, the number one feature that business owners are looking for in a wordpress plugin is a non – technical one. And I am referring to after sales service support.

I don’t know the original poster but I have had some bad experiences myself which basically affects the faith one has towards wordpress and the open source model where people are charged for service. What happens when they do not receive it (the expected client servicing).

Right now, even though its expensive, people should consider custom coding, because even though the core wordpress files are free and all that, the encompassing services entities are becoming spoilers, not all of them but some of them definitely are.

Thats the cons of open source code, in averse to the pros being that it is available for free.
But free does not actually covert to being the best pricing which only experience can teach you. Its better to take a hard look at your business model, figure out how much money could budget to making a custom web project and try to atleast consider it rather that go for the free option of wordpress. WordPress is good on its own for static websites and all, thats a no brainer…

The makers of WordPress should take some responsibility. They should have a mechanism wherein customers could address their issues (which this forum is doing) but WordPress could probably issue some kind of official rating alongwith the ratings provided by people.

I don’t know I have not figured it out all the measures that can be taken. The point is that they have to get increasingly involved to see that quality and order is maintained by the service industry which wants to cater to the business owners piggybacking on wordpress.

WordPress has to become more responsible, period. Like Apple has taken the responsibility to review the apps before approving it. Thats exactly what I am talking about. And thats why you see probably far lesser BS apps in the Apple store than in other spheres. Thats why the experience using an Apple product is much better than others (Hey not an Apple fanboy here, I use both Apple and non-Apple products, both).

That way there would be more faith by business owners while embracing wordpress as the standard of code they want to go with trusting their business with.

I mean everyone talks about WordPress now powers so much of the internet websites. However, many have either abandoned or left it even for whatever reasons, but that is seldom discussed about. I strongly suspect the lack of service and no support from WP itself might just be a contributing factor, I do not have any numbers but am sure it is quite some percentage, and I speaking with my experiences with small business owners.

I am sorry if I upset anyone with me opinion but I think we should “pause” and think about how we can make the “WordPress experience to be like the Apple experience”.

Hello Brian!

It is good to know that you would soon have an events plugin with an RSVP option. However, an events should have had originally an RSVP as a basic feature and not as an afterthought.

I am saying this so that your dev team can understand that they have do a better job of understanding what the core features should be, what important features can be reserved as paid features and what features could be assigned lesser priority and be incorporated on a later date.

I am sorry if I offended you, I did not mean to, just offering my honest opinion, the RSVP feature should have been incorporated right at inception of the plugin.

And I noticed that this is a missing feature with your competitors too, so thats really surprising. The only one having this is from the WPMU guys, but I don’t wanna use their plugins.

Again, not incorporating the “events tab” in buddypress is a serious overlook, but I really do not know what your development feature schedule looks like, so I cannot make a call on that, but will request you to consider incorporating as early as possible since it complements the RSVP feature which I have explained in the feature request forum, as requested by Geoff and which is available at:

Thanks for replying back. However since I am not a developer and do not have that bent of mind, most of the stuff that you said just went right over my head ??

I cannot get my hands dirty with code and figure out functions and variables and all that code stuff (sorry to disappoint).

Although, I do not blame you for that, since probably I might have given you a wrong example. So lemme fix that by providing a more simpler example, something that comes right out from my website.

We sell Steam Wallet Codes (more info at https://store.steampowered.com/account/redeemwalletcode)
We want to encourage our tribe members to buy more of it and we would like to reward them with points for the same.

So if a member has bought $50 worth codes in this calendar month, we reward him/her with 50 points. And then create multiple levels to it, say like for $500, $1000 etc.

The key here is that the member is rewarded based on his purchases on a monthly basis. So we calculate at the end of the month and automatically reward him as per our reward configuration, and start over fresh for the new month.

How can we do this in BadgeOS way of working? Or does it not have a provision currently to accommodate this kind of time bound reward parameter?

I am sorry if you find it annoying to speak to a non tech guy like me, but this is simply how I could approach the problem and explain it to you.

Hmm, you should change the rating (from one star) if your problem is solved especially if it occurred for no fault of Graham’s plugin, in the first place. Just saying… he seems like a good guy so give credit where it’s due…

Hello,

I changed the password of my admin account, after which, it said that “medium” level password is not accepted.

So I went to the settings and disabled “strong” level password required for admin.

And then came back to my admin profile and changed the password.

Then went back to the better security settings and enabled “strong” password required for admin.

After that the website just would have redirect loops and the website would not load.

I went to the cpanel>file manager and moved the plugin in order to isolate & identify if the redirect loop is due to it. That worked, the website came back on immediately. But I don’t know if I have the security cover of better security now.

But now if I move the better security plugin back again under plugins directory, it goes in endless redirect loop and thats it.

To get the site working I have to move the better security plugin directory to outside the plugins directory.

Also, I tried re-installing the plugin, but it strangely gives me an error that a plugin with that directory name already exists, even after having moved it via cpanel>file manager to outside the plugins directory.

What do I do and how do I come of this messy situation?

Yes, I second that, the plugin installs but gives an error on Activation.
Please do not update until advised by plugin author.
