so i posted only this inside footer.php:

and added this to index.php:
<?php get_footer(); ?>
but when i change the code inside footer.php, my theme breaks. i want to use the footer, i do not mind giving credits to the author, but this is just really annoying.
so what am i doing wrong?
can someone please please PLEASE tell me exactly what to put inside footer.php and index.php?
