    Hi Mika,

Thanks for this, I was about to try and fix this, but before I did I tested the site again, and I don’t understand why, but today it is loading normally – with a range of 3-7 seconds homepage load on pingdom tools. So for now I figure that it’s just a hosting issue more than anything, but I’ll keep this for future reference – it’s good to have a definitive answer and your articles have a really good explanation as to what’s going on.

    Thanks again,
    Lon

Just in case anyone experiences a similar issue, I think this has been resolved – my hosts had an option to redirect the domain using a pointer from www to non-www. this had created a redirect subdirectory in my root, which seemed to be causing it to intermitently flake out and loop. It hasn’t been doing this since I took this directory away.

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I think I’ve just managed to sort it out. I went into PHPmySQL and found that it was keeping all the domain info there:

wp_domain_mapping (browsed that table and found the main domain remapping onto itself)

so everytime I reloaded the plugin it was just sitting there and using that info which was creating a horrible paradox.

I deleted the bad entry and reinstalled the plugin and this time it worked.

Still kept me out of my new site constantly asking me to log in, but after setting up a separate user it seems to be letting me in to that site for some reason.

Now I’ve got to deal with the fact that I was idiotic enough to do an FTP drag and drop to backup/reinstate my site which I fear is going to cause me all sorts of problems with database files etc. Any advice on how to clean up that mess?

    Thanks again,
    Lon
