What you should do is just change the option in your reading section. Create two pages for home and blog, then set them as the static home page and posts page in Settings -> Reading

I’ve given this (above here) a go but when I change the WordPress Address (URL) to the page where I want the posts, I get a 404 error when I save.

Any thoughts?

Via FTP have renamed the plugin folder to
/www/blog/wp-content/plugins/index1.php

but still get the same error message when I try to access the blog dashboard.

(From memeory it’s pretty simple, Askimet and not much else)

What should I try next?

I’m getting over my head pretty quickly but have checked wp-config.php for the errors mentioned and they do not appear, ie:

The uploaded file date is 4 years old, so it hasn’t been altered.

Can you point me to what I should look at next?

thanks samboll. i have done that but i still get the same error message:

what i’d forgotten and forgotten to mention is a itried to do an automatic upgrade to WP2.8. the upgrade failed and gave me several pages worth of code which i did not really look at.

can this mean i’m “stuck” between 2 versions?

am i completely stuffed?

doesn’t seem to be it.

the last comment i can see within the dashboard>comments for editing is last september.

in fact i can’t see where comments might be disallowed (we do have askimet activated)
