Sorry, I am multitasking. To close and resolve this issue: I was able to see index.php in my upgraded installation after I changed permissions.

OK. I am getting there with this harrowing upgrade! I have updated links in style.css, and the graphic page elements are now taking shape. What I am unsure about is why the content is missing: links, posts, comments etc. It is fine on the vanilla styled theme, so it is there in my database.

Is there a trick in the upgrade process to make the index page from 1.2 display the content the same way as it did before?

    Thanks

    Any ideas why https://www.llasher.com/wordpress/
    looks so, er, minimal.

In 1.2 I had a particular layout based on the css file which included a banner and graphics that are in the root folder. The colors in the page are right, but obviously nothing else is. I will try to edit the style.css file, but I am not sure why nothing else has translated to 1.5.

    Any ideas?

Ok, done that. Plus it kind of works. Can see my index.php now, but only kind of

Some problem with the css file? The default theme works OK, but it is too plain.

I am grateful though that you fixed the blank index.php. Thanks!

BTW, what should the permissions be set for the themes folder and files?

Yep! I can see all them, Your theme is “Carrots” as per the upgrade suggestion.

I also have a problem now with a blank index.php page (strangely this page displayed perfectly on initial upgrade process).

Thanks for the quick reply. I followed those instructions and it works! I also pleased that I was on the right track, I just didn’t think of indenting the “hidden” text right off the page so the link remained.

Also, the Search function seems to have gone on my view of the forum, or was it never there??

Thanks basketball. I thought there might be more elegant approach than hack it up, but hack it up it is! ??
I didn’t know there were css code that was specific to each browser. Isn’t there something called web publishing standards? ha!
Your approach is far more sophistimicated than mine, which was just to get something that approximately worked (as far as margins and alignment went) for both browsers.
I haven’t even looked at what works with Opera or Netscape (hopefully the same as for FF). Too scared.

Thanks mcmanx, I have just fixed the problem. It was quite a major head scratcher, and the only thing that remotely explains it was a failure to overwrite post.php and the behaviour of Golive in handling site resources. That or the demons of Christmas, although I always thought they were elves :-).
Anyway, I wouldve been happy for your help but its back to normal.
However, pingback still eludes me, and it is my quest for pingback functionality that started all this. Not sure if it is a bug in 1.2.2, interested if anyone has had problems and been able to fix them.

THanks podz. I think I tried everything. It is the weirdest thing. What I have just done is this:
    redownloaded wordpress 1.2.2
    created new database
reinstalled a new version of WP into a new folder
ie. completely separate install, the only thing that is the same is the domain
Still getting blank page when trying to login
    ??
I have never had this before, after many installs of WP. This all seems to have happened since I tried to fix the post.php on a different install of WP.
I am really stumped on this one. I have flushed cookies in both Firefox and IE but no luck. Is hard refresh pushing F5? The only thing I haven’t done is a cold reboot! ??
    Any other ideas?

?? I’ve done that several times. I’m at a loss of what could be wrong. I’ve deleted the files from the server and uploaded new ones from a brand new WP download, with the same result. I have actually just tried a “soft” reinstall with exactly the same result!! I am about to delete everything and start again. I have exported my sql database file, which I assume I can reimport. Are there any other files that I should keep?
    wp-config.php
    wp-layout.css
are the main ones I think?
    ??

Fair enough, as long as I know there’s no neater way, I’ll just install into another folder on my host. Thanks.
