orphaned post meta and Advanced Custom Fields

    Just installed and have found nearly 15K “orphaned posts meta” mostly containing content from Advanced Custom Fields, which I use heavily on numerous sites.

    ACF works entirely based on a post meta, so deleting these entries could destroy an entire site.

    What isn’t clear is whether this plugin doesn’t recognize that ACF is in use for the site and its pages/posts or whether it just thinks “this is unused data” because it doesn’t know where/what the meta is being used for.

    Would rather not test it out and then deal with restoring the database, so thought I’d check in advance.

However, due to the highly customizable nature of WordPress installations, certain configurations may lead the plugin to categorize active and in-use post meta as orphaned. I suspect this is occurring with ACF in your instance.

    I am currently exploring options to enhance the plugin’s compatibility and recognition features. The aim is to better distinguish between unused and crucial post meta, especially those related to plugins like ACF.

    Cleaning up a database can be a complicated process. Please always ensure to back up your database before proceeding to delete anything to avoid unintentional data loss.

    Just did a database backup and tested… it worked! Cleaned the orphaned post meta without affecting the site!
