So if anyone is looking to do something similar, take a look at that post.
Some warnings:
DO:
-make sure that the second (third, forth, fifth–however many blogs you want to make, this warning applies to all) blog’s database is the same as the first.
DO NOT:
-add the line
define('CUSTOM_USER_TABLE', 'wp_users');
in your wp-config.php file until after you have installed the second blog
