Thanks for getting back to me Alin – there are 26 items in the wp content/languages/plugins folder…each file starts jetpack-en_GB and then a number. At the moment they seem to be all that is left of Jetpack but it would be good to clean it all up. Is it ok to just manually delete these or is there a removal tool that I can use? Many thanks again.
I’ve tried deleting the wflog file as suggested on another question but that hasn’t changed the errors re memory size etc. Just to clarify I get the http 500 error switching admin pages and also a json error when updating posts as well as the intermittent http 500 error occasionally on sign in. I really would appreciate some help please ??

In reply to: Http error 500Hi Steven, thank you for getting back to me. I have done the debug and at the same time my hosts came back with a similar find to me :
Looking at the error, there is a memory allocation issues always triggered by the same file, see below:
[21-Jul-2023 14:41:44 UTC] PHP Fatal error:? Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate?2242368?bytes) in /home/bowenthe/lingregory.com/wp-content/wflogs/rules.php on line 4598
So it appears to be a Wordfence issue rather than a WP installation issue so I’ll go to that forum. Thank you for your help on this – now I know about debug logs it will help in future! ??
Hi Peter, diagnostic has been sent, let me know if you see what the problem. Many thanks for all of your help on this one. Lin
HI Peter, thank you for getting back to me again. The saga continues! I decided to try again using Wordfence, as I would prefer that to AIOWPS, setting up everything without Jetpack. No more critical errors but I have been getting error 500 on some pages that then load on refresh. I also tried again with Jetpack and immediately got a critical error. After uninstalling all aspects of Jetpack it went back to just error 500 intermittently. I have wondered about it possibly being a hosting server problem so I will give them a try and see if they can help.
Hi Peter, thanks for getting back to me – I know it doesn’t happen often but everything pointed to WF on this occasion so I have had to rethink my security. Thank you for your help and getting back to me.
Hi Peter, thank you for getting back to me. It’s a strange one to be honest – when I try to do something in my wp site admin I’ll suddenly get a critical error warning and that an email has been sent with details. The last two emails detailing the errors gave the following info:
On the site health page I got n error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 3665 of the file wp-content/plugins/jetpack/inc/lib/class.core-rest-api-endpoints.php. Error message: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2621440 bytes)
On the wp updates page I got the error of type An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 2383 of the file wp-content/plugins/jetpack/inc/lib/class.core-rest-api-endpoints.php. Error message: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2621440 bytes
I spoke to my hosts and they tried increasing php and it didn’t change anything, they said it is definitely a plugin error. I tried uninstalling Jetpack and it still happened but I didn’t get an email! The thing is I’ve never had this before using Jetpack alongside WP AIOS. I opted to try Wordfence as it seems to be a far superior security option. Hence my thought that it may be one of my Wordfence settings that’s causing the problem. Hope this helps explain the issue better ??
As an update I have spoken to my hosts who confirm the issue appears to be with the Jetpack plugin. If I try to switch from say the plugins tab on the WP menu to say the media tab I get the critical error. But if I then refresh the page the media tab comes up. However the message that gets emailed is the problem is at “wp-content/plugins/jetpack/_inc/lib/class.core-rest-api-endpoints.php” ‘type’ => ‘boolean’
The hosts tried increasing php etc but there was no change – they are adamant it is Jetpack – does anyone have any ideas as I am stuck.
Hi Janet, thank you so much for your comprehensive reply – I have to admit I was very disjointed and confused in the way I was approaching this and you laid things out so that I could sort this out step by step.
I do have a follow up question – am I able to run Wordfence alongside WordPress Security All In One plugin? Their firewall is disabled and the Wordfence one is currently in learning mode. Also if I use the twostep authentication for Wordfence will this affect my Jetpack plug in (where it hasnt been set up for 2step authentication either). Many thanks.
Hi Elvis, apologies for not getting back to you. That issue resolved but now I just need to know in FooBox how to stop the alt text which is really there for SEO from appearing alongside the Caption on each image. I would just like to show the caption. Many thanks
