In reply to: Multiple category searches via one query link?Fooddude,
Not only does it work, but it’s fun! Thanks for posting here.
I’m going to need this to work (in some format) very soon as I’m redoing the job search site in WP (was MT). Just found a competitor of theirs that has a very nice search function doing just what I need (not as fun as Fooddude, though!):
I’ll go checkout UTW 3.0, thanks.

In reply to: WordPress Blog vs. WordPress CMSPaticoflange,
Thanks for your question and I hope you post your findings here later after you’ve used another CMS or WP or whatever you do as I’m often in the same boat as you are (need more than WP can offer). I’d very much like to know what you choose (Mambo, Drupal, etc.).
There are some examples of sites that use WP that aren’t blogs on this topic. I also mention at that topic how I’ve been using Drupal for my more “community” sites, but any of them I can move to WP I am in the middle of. I tell my clients that “The best software (or tool) is the one you know how to use.”
I’ve spent about a year working with Drupal and about two years with WP and I keep coming back to WP. It’s just so much easier for me–and my clients–to work with.
When it came time for the users/members of one of my CMS (non-WP) sites to add an image and it took a phone call and a help video, I knew it was time to move the site to WP.
Again, please post your experiences here.
Best regards,
– Bradley
Sooz,
Thanks for asking this question, it’s becoming more and more relevant.
Most of the sites I build use WordPress (I’ve done some in Drupal and oldies in MovableType, but WP keeps getting better and better and more and more powerful) and for every site, WordPress does the entire site–although some involve other software (e.g. Gallery2).
That said, I’m getting more and more requests for e-commerce capability and while I’m in the middle of trying out what looks like a great plug-in for PayPal and a limited number of e-commerce solutions, I just need something that works. Ideally, I’d like it work with WP as I’m just plain in love with WP !
While I’m on the wishlist topic, I currently use Drupal for a group/member site and the only reason I haven’t yet switched it WP is because of the Drupal feature that allows one user (member) to email one, some (groups), or all other members.
I’ll keep my on this topic for any other comments people may have. Also, thanks for posting your updates to this topic, they’re helpful.
Best regards,
– Bradley

In reply to: What features do you look for in a image/media galleryI’ve tested and tried at least a dozen photo plug-ins and/or separate systems with WordPress and it comes down to one simple feature I’d LOVE:
— delete original image file after/during upload (and after plug-in creates a medium and thumbnail image)
When I build a WP site for someone who uploads their 3 MB digital camera image … you get the idea. It won’t be long before their disk quota is reached and, if the plug-in doesn’t do any resizing, their visitors will have to downloads these beasts every photo.
I’ve had many people tell me, “Just optimize before the upload in Photoshop.” Sure, I know how to do that, but most people don’t. Most people also won’t take the time (or even figure out how) to delete the original manually.
That’s my 2 cents. Really just 1 cent. ??

In reply to: Table ‘wordpress.wp_options’ doesn’t existI just had the same error, but it turned out to be the “stattraq-button-plugin.php” that was looking for a table called “wp_options”.
If, in your config.php file, you give your prefix as “wp_” you shouldn’t have this problem, but I always gave the prefix as “00_” (from back in the days when I used to do multiple WP installs for one site) and that was the problem. Either change your prefix in your config file or go change line 13 of stattraq-button-plugin.php.
$table_prefix = '00_'; // example: 'wp_' or 'b2' or 'mylogin_'

In reply to: “Big” events calendar (main page, not sidebar)Cokeyko: Funny, my Writing Salon client mentioned that same website for its calendar. Their calendar was my goal. EC2 (and EC3) are the best I found and I think they’re doing a pretty good job.
Nearlythere: I have used EC3, but I haven’t managed to do what Micki did above (I haven’t tried either). I only get to these things when a client asks me for it, so when that time comes–and I’m sure it will–I’ll post anything I learn here. That said, it looks like Micki has figured it out although I had a look at what I think is her site and I didn’t see EC3 in use.

In reply to: How to import old wp into anotherWhat about from FIVE WP installs into one? Do they have unique IDs or will they overwrite each other?
I used to use multiple installs to make “sections” for WP sites (before WP 1.5 and Pages etc.), but now to add plugins and upgrade WP I need to do it 5 times. Also, I’d like the plugin to work in every section, not just the one I’d installed it in.
In other words, do the different posts from the different WP installs have unique IDs or will they overwrite each other?
Thanks for any tips.

In reply to: What is forcing my sidebar down in IE?That search form you have was a guilty party once.

In reply to: What is forcing my sidebar down in IE?I’ve had similar issues before and it was often the sidebar width (plus any margins, padding, etc.). Make some changes, do some tests. That or the main area is too wide (if main = 500 px and sidebar = 200 px and your site is 699 px, IE might mess it up, FF might not).
Not scientific, but I hope it helps.

In reply to: Post Save or Publish Times OutFor me, it only happens when I have images in the post. I use Chenpress (WYSIWYG) and that slows things down a bit, too, but I just did some testing and it’s the images that slow it down.
However, just a few seconds after I click save, I can refresh the page (in another tab) and see that it’s been saved already. So then I just go click Manage (or something) at the top of the WP admin screen and move along.

In reply to: Gamerz wp-email and 1.5Sounds like you got it to work. If anyone else is having trouble, I figured this one out the hard way.

In reply to: Enabling wp-email.php and wp-print.phpThanks GamerZ for a fantastic plugin! I’ve been using it for a while and love it, but just installed it on another site and it wouldn’t work for the life of me. Finally figured it out: it didn’t like the fact that it was sending a post that was dated in the future. Fixed it by removing reference to dates.
AND post_date_gmt < '".gmdate("Y-m-d H:i:s")."'
I hope this saves anyone the hours it took me to figure it out!
