  • Hi! Just wanted to share after a painful day with the same problem. This never happened to me before so the solution didn’t occur to me and I found it after much brainstorming.

For a revamp of a website, I was working with the new design and found that in using Visual Composer, if a Page had to be reconstructed drastically, I preferred to:

    1. Create a New Page – lets call the Original Page ‘Film’ and the New Page ‘Film-2’
    2. Copy the Text Content to a Text Editor *offline as a backup because I intended to add all new media anyway and could simply insert that.
    2. Build the new Page with the new Media and Copy and Paste the Text content
    3. Once content with the New ‘Film-2’ Page I would Delete the Original Old Page ‘Film’ and empty the Trash, Clear Cache, Clear Cache
    4. Edit the New Page Title from ‘Film-2’ to read just ‘Film’, making sure that the Permalink structure also reflected the change and Publish.
    5. A refresh of the Page should now pull up the new Page! Wrong. I then had these problems listed in the forum.

Although I could see the New Page in the Dashboard and I could see the new content there, the Live Page was now pulling up a Blog Page with Posts from the Category title ‘Film’. So, I deleted the Category titled ‘Film’ and all posts assigned to that Category assigned to ‘Blog’. STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. Loading the new Page with posts that were once assigned to the Category ‘Film’. After a whole day of messing around with this, scratching my head, checking for theme or plugin incompatibilities, nothing worked. Until…

    1. I DELETED all instances of the Title ‘Film’ from Category, Page, AND – get this TAGS.
    2. Once all clear – I built the New Page again – Titled Film and it worked, it was now pulling up the new content, not the Category ‘Film’ posts, not the Posts Tagged with ‘Film’, but the actual `Page.
    3. I then added a Category called ‘Film’ and I noticed the Slug for the Category Name defaulted to ‘Film-2’
    4. I then added a Tag named ‘Film’ and I noticed the Tag Title changed automatically to ‘Film-3’

So, for some reason, WordPress is now putting all the same Titles whether Page, Category, Tag together and each instanced of this Title created for either of these will automatically get the number according to the sequence they were created. It used to be that each would be treated as different. So , if you create two Pages by the same Title you get Film and Film-2. But now – the Categories and Tags are also figured into this sequencing. VERY ANNOYING. In a WordPress site, you might have a Page that is used for informative reasons, but the Category to put news related to that title on a daily basis, and most Home configurations will also pull from Posts so that flexibility matters and is what makes WordPress great. But, with this bundled in Pages, Categories and Tags, I dont know how this will affect this. I wonder is this a glitch or is this how things are moving now?
