    Hi Tara.

    I spoke to the hosting company and they increased it to about 800mbs on their side.

    I then edited .htaccess
    php_value memory_limit 1024M

    I then also edited wp-config.php
    define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘1024M’);

    I also created a file in wp-admin\php.ini
    memory_limit = 1024M ;

    Ive played around with the limit size…dont know how big to make it or what to change.

    As I still get the same error.

    Thanks for all the help so far.

    Hi Tara.

    I put this command in the wp-config.php file

    define( ‘WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT’ , ‘512M’ );

    But that didnt work…not to sure if that is the right file or right command?

    Thanks

    Hi Tara.

    It is quite weird. I renamed the plugins folder to plugins.old and changed the theme to the standard theme, and ran the update but I get this message in the error logs.

    [Thu May 14 11:18:26 2015] [error] [client 41.164.31.178] PHP Fatal error:
    Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 523800 bytes)
    in /var/www/sites/devel.co.za/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 159,
    referer: https://www.isoftnet.co.za/wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-core-upgrade

    I then look at that file on line 159

    file.php (159)
    return wp_tempnam( dirname( $filename ), $dir );
    }

    So not to sure what that means.

    I also then removed everything from the server besides the wp-content folder and wp-config.php file and copied 4.2.2 via ftp upload. But when I tried to access the site the page is just white.

    So I am not to sure what went wrong there.

    I just recovered from a backup.

    Not to sure what that error message says though…

    Thanks again for all your help.

    Hi Tara.

    Ok I have uploaded the wordpress files and didnt copy the wp-content folder or the wp-config.php file.

    But now when I go to the website.co.za/wp-admin i get the option to update the database and I click on update, but it goes to a blank screen.

    So not to sure how long I am supposed to wait before I can go to the wordpress front end panel as I have tried to update it in chrome, firefox and IE but it still goes to a blank page

    https://www.isoftnet.co.za/wp-admin/upgrade.php?step=1&backto=%2Fwp-admin%2F

    It just displays that.

    I have backed up the website though.

    I overwrote the files when I uploaded via FTP.

    I will give it a little while before I maybe remove those files and try again, or I will restore them from the backup.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hey, thanks for the replies,

    Sorry for the late reply.

    Just seems to have happened after I updated to wordpress 3.3.

    I just disabled all my plugins besides for this one…and then i tried again…on posts and pages, still doesnt work.

    Well it does work if you copy the htlm code and put it in there…so the actual plugin works 100% just not the short cut link, when you editing a page or post -> you cant click on it, and open it up…and just copy the youtube video link in there. But it’s ok…for now…I just copied the code.

    Not to sure what else to do…will try a few more things…also tried to disable and re-enable that plugin as well.

    Hi Joe,

    I sort have figured it out. But I kinder made it too transparent.

    I edited the style.css

    Made 3 changed
    body { line-height: 18px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color: #838383; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #ffffff; background: display none; }

    background-color: transparent!important; ( there should be another one somewhere else too – change it there as well. )

    But now I am trying to make it less transparent so it shows some sort of background. Lol.

    Hi Joe,

    It’s just a personal website that I am trying to create.

    https://www.allaboutlionel.com

    There isnt a lot of Information on there…but there is still some stuff.

    At the top where you see the menu – that top part is transparent. And I would like to get the whole pages and posts like that. So you can see the background.

    Would you normally in the style.css file associate like an image background to a page or post or search field or menu bar thingy?

    Just going to try and look in some other files and see If i can pretend to see whats going on.

    Thanks for your help so far.

    Hi Joe,

    Yeah I made that change again.

    body { line-height: 18px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color: #838383; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #ffffff; background: #000; }

    I changed the #000 to #transparent, I also then changed it to just transparent without the #

    I then tried to look for body and background and changed everything next to background.

    Also tried to change it to background: none.

    Still not working. Kinder sucks as I can see there is some sort of transparency ( for the menu at the top is transparent – thats where i saw background: none.

    but maybe i need like additional code to make the background transparent or something.

    Thanks for your help though.

    Just saw this article

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/create-multiple-columns-wordpress-pages-posts/

    Which uses this plugin.
    Magazine Columns 1.0.4

    Going to play around with this shortly. See if I can get it to work.

    Hey,

    Am using this theme called “full screen” theme. But I managed to get it to sort of work the way i want it too.

    Didnt add any code, just added the 1st image, then when my cursor was flashing at the bottom right hand corner of that image, i just used space bar, and inserted to where I wanted the image to be.

    That kinder solved my problem.

    That 2011 child theme, was going to try and add that into my index.php file, but then I saw it was a snippet. Was wondering if it would have worked.

    But it’s sort of working now.

    Thanks though for your help.

    Hey Thanks Mitchell…going to read it now!!

    (@leo2099)

    Thanks Mitchell,

    I made the change…what is the quotation marks for? To make it more prominent or something.

    I think it must have been working when i made the previous change…but the change from the normal font Arial to Century Gothic was very minor on the web page…looks so much different in Word.

    Also how would you make all the text in that font? Because when I made the change, only the page title inside the page changed to that specific text. Not the font in the page or at the top where you click on the page title you want to visit…ie: Home, gallery, contact me and the like.

    Sorry to be a pain…just trying to get this figured out.

    You can check the website and see what im talking about if you like.

    Thanks so much to Shirazdrum,

    He told me to remove the below under each page – Near the bottom -> under discussions -> un check these…

    Allow comments.
    Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.

    And then I removed from the comments.php file

    <?php if (‘open’ == $post->comment_status) : ?>
    <!– If comments are open, but there are no comments. –>

    <?php else : // comments are closed ?>
    <!– If comments are closed. –>
    <p class=”nocomments”>Comments are closed.</p>

    And that seemed to work pretty nicely.
