  • Thanks micasuh.

I was having the same issue with mysterious white space above the doctype. This fixed it.

It also seems to have fixed an issue I was having with not being able to edit widgets in the admin area.

    Thanks!

Ahh! this has been driving me nuts. Thanks for the solution!

    agreed!
So unless this is just some kind of bug – I just don’t get why they’d do this. how is this different than the Quick Post plugin?

I thought the long “conversation” they were having regarding which quick posting interface was best might lead them to do this differently. overwhelmingly people said Tumblr… well what’s so great about tumblr, aside from automatically detecting media to insert, is that it copies images to the tumblr servers.

you know how much bandwidth gets sucked up by people hotlinking, when most of them don’t even know why its a problem? way to promote lazy and inconsiderate behavior guys.
and i don’t even want to hear it about htaccess- i already jump through plenty of hoops to work around twerps online like everyone else.
i’m talking about promoting decent behavior.

    dur, guys. seriously

    @rhartong-
can you please explain? are you saying that by editing the php you were able to get it NOT to hotlink?

all i want is for it to save a copy of found images to my server…

    Moshu-
Nope, it is not logical. My reason for thinking a previously approved comment is based on email alone is because of this, from the WordPress Docs:

Comment author must have a previously approved comment
When this box is checked, comments are only posted if the comment author’s email address matches the address of a previously approved comment, otherwise, the comment is held for moderation.

A commenter being required to fill out a name and email is a separate option from a comment needing to be previously approved. Nowhere is it stated that the two are dependent on one another.

If this is the case perhaps someone could clarify this is the Docs.

thank you so much for trying to help. I will try this out tomorrow and I’ll let you know if it solves the problem for me after some testing.

    @lelion

PS DreamHost is fine, I’ve been using it for more than a year now to host my main blog, based on WordPress, and I didn’t have any serious problems up to now. The problem with the email notifications occured right after my last WP upgrade, so I guess, it’s not a hosting problm, but rather a WP problem…

Actually it probably was (still is) dreamhost’s problem. They sent me a mass email (which is infuriating after 3 days of me asking for help and not hearing from them) saying their server wasn’t executing mailscripts for the last few days. That the system had been “clogged up” and things should be peachy now. Well they aren’t- I’m starting to get email notifications from 3 days ago, but only some.

But here’s the solution that fixed all this for me:

I was in contact with several people who work at WP and one of them suggested doing this:

1.set up a completely new email address (i picked [email protected]) – don’t use [email protected]

    2. then install this plug-in:

    wp-mail-smtp

    3. in the plug-in options tab set the options to:
    send mail using SMTP,
send the mail using your new email address,
fill in the SMTP host, username and password that your host gave you when you set up the new email address,
    YES, use smtp authentication

    4. Send yourself a test mail using the plugin to make sure it works.

By doing all this you are bypassing php mailscripts altogether and you don’t have to rely on your host having them working.

It worked for me, I tested commenting on the blog and it came through immediately. When I turn this plugin off and try it I’m STILL not getting email notifications.

Hope this helps, good luck everyone.

I have the same problem- I posted a new subject in these forums but I’ll paste it here too in case someone reading this thread can help:

i am not receiving email notifications when anyone comments on my blog -WP 2.3.3.

    the issue:
when i first installed v. 2.3.2 a few days ago I got a couple of notifications for comments. when i added an editor they started only going to her. then they stopped coming to either of us. i don’t get the notifications when i comment signed in, or when i comment anonymously. i don’t get the notifications at a gmail account or a pop account.

    steps i’ve taken:
i have now upgraded to 2.3.3 and it did not fix the issue.

i have made sure that i have an email address [email protected] with my host.

i have been instructed to remove line 228 $phpmailer->Sender = apply_filters( ‘wp_mail_from’, $from_email ); but as of version 2.3.3 the line no longer seems to exist.

i have made sure that i have a different email address for every user.

i have disabled all plug-ins. the theme i’m using is very basic and based on the default.

(I also have a different install v. 2.3 with only one user and it doesn’t work there either. So this HAS to be a hosting issue- don’t use Dreamhost people! no support AT ALL)

i have searched for a solution to my problem and heard several suggestions but they aren’t working for me.

can anyone please help? i’ve asked Dreamhost, my host, to look into it but i’m not hearing back from them. any help would be appreciated.

anyone? please, i’m not getting any response from dreamhost.
If this stays this way I’ll have to try Moveable Type… and I shudder at the thought.
