Oh!! I just realized that categories don’t appear on that list on the left side of the blog until you post something under that category.
Duh. I was just setting them up in preparation and wondering why the heck they weren’t showing up.
Also — regarding that warning. It’s interesting to note that it doesn’t show up if I use Safari, only if I’m using IE. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.

OK. That makes sense.
I guess that the registration feature might be good if:
a. you want to keep track of readers so you can send out mass emails
b. you want WordPress to act like a forum and have it so that anyone who signs up gets permissions to post
… or other things that hinge upon people having to sign up.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t shortchanging any good features by disallowing people to register.
