Thanks Greg. That did eliminate the error message. Are you going to include that code change in future versions? However, I understand that you’re saying it doesn’t have any real impact.

The plug-in seems to work great – very nice job in comparison to any of the other backup plug-ins I tried.

    Thanks very much.

    Hi Greg –

Thanks for the responses. We added in the SSH2 library after your first response, and then updated the plug-in after your second response.

It appears to successfully ftp the backup; however, it does throw an error at the tail end of the background process when it tries to close the ftp connection. Can you help with this? Error is below –

    Warning: ftp_close(): supplied resource is not a valid FTP Buffer resource in /var/www/mysite/wp-content/plugins/cyan-backup/includes/protocol-sftplibrary.php on line 27 Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/mysite/wp-content/plugins/cyan-backup/includes/protocol-sftplibrary.php:27) in /var/www/mysite/wp-content/plugins/cyan-backup/cyan-backup.php on line 564 {“result”:true,”method”:”backup”,”backup_file”:”\/tmp\/mysite.20140313.171640.zip”,”backup_date”:”March 13, 2014 @ 5:16 pm”,”backup_size”:”83.45 MB”,”backup_deleted”:null}

Does anybody know if WordPress 3.0.1 is compatible with PHP 5.3.2?

    Thanks.

Thanks – that’s helpful, but I have little doubt certain versions are compatible. As a web host, what I specifically need is to be able to determine which clients have WordPress installations that will not work when we upgrade to PHP 5.3.2. I also need to be able to provide them guidance of which minimum version they will need to be on.

Since the coders had to code the product to be compatible at some point, I’m sure there must be some record of this information.

    Thanks.

This is not a bug. PHP 5.3 discontinues various functions, features and directives that are in previous versions. If, for example, WP 2.6.5 does not support PHP 5.3, which it likely does not – then it is not a bug – it is a need to upgrade the client from that version to the version which adds PHP 5.3 support.

What I am seeking to find out is which version of WP added PHP 5.3 support, if any. The software would have had to undergo some recoding if it used discontinued directives/functions, which it appears very clear that it does.

This is not much different than software which works on Windows XP but doesn’t work on Windows 7. Same OS, different versions.

    Thanks.

Nope – I cannot. I have done various searches and have not found anything anywhere that says – as of version ??? we are now supporting PHP 5.3

That is what I need – something definitive.

    Thanks.

    Hi there Michael –

You are saying that WordPress code is compatible with PHP 5.3 across all versions of WordPress?

I am actually a web host and in a dry run of upgrading PHP from 5.2.14 to 5.3.2, there were many errors on a number of WordPress sites due to features and functions being deprecated in PHP 5.3.x

In some cases it was clear that the errors and/or warnings were coming from plug-ins or templates, but there were several sites where that did not appear to be the case.

    Can you please clarify?

    Thanks.

    Mike
