Yes, THANK YOU Kathryn! This worked beautifully; I have no idea what I was doing wrong, so thank you for your help! ??

[EDIT:] Okay, so actually there’s a little problem: the code works lovely on the main forum page, but when I click on a thread, the box starts where the original margins were and goes off of the page on the right side. You can see it here:

If there’s a way to fix this, I would greatly appreciate your assistance again! Thank you!

Thanks Amanda, I tried this, as well as rewriting my .htaccess file and resaving the permalinks multiple times :/ Nothing worked. I tested my other custom post type and the regular WP posts and pages, and thankfully those were working fine. So, the problem was just this one custom post type. So I ended up just recreating a totally new CTP to replace the “corrupted” one, tested that, and thankfully it worked! So I’m just going to deactivate the old CTP and use the new one instead.

Didn’t quite resolve what the problem was, but we worked around it. Thank you again for your help @arush!

Hello @arush, thank you for your reply!

I’ve taken the site off of Members Only so you’ll be able to fully view the site. Yes, the blog posts and majority of the pages are fine, it’s just when I got to edit a page/post or create a new one the problem arises. Some of the pages have a custom permalink structure that I’ve set myself, and some are because of a custom post type plugin I’m using; I haven’t had problems from either one when it came to accessing posts until this morning, and it was only after they were edited/newly created.

If you go to this link: https://lattesandsilverprose.com/story-feed/ and click on the first post titled “My NaNo Novel”, you’ll see how it will take you to an “Oops! Nothing found” error. I created this page this morning to test if creating a new page would still show the problem, and it does.

Hmm…okay, this is definitely strange: my dashboard is working fine…except for when I try to access my permalinks settings. The page just doesn’t load; it’s completely blank, no door message or anything :/ All other areas of my WP Admin Dashboard are working fine, though. I’m not sure what’s wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Assistance is still needed from anyone who can help (from community or staff, it doesn’t matter) and will be much appreciated! Thank you.

My apologies! I did not know this; on the forum threads I found regarding this topic, there were multiple times people posted links that showed how to use the modlock tag to have a staff member look at your post. I had believed that this was a standard thing to do when needing staff-specific help; thank you for informing me, I had no intention of being abusive and will refrain from using the tag in the future.

Hello again! I have figured out what the problem was:

I’m facepalming myself as I type this. So, I totally failed to see the option in the Access Settings of UM that read “Make Categories Accessible”; because of that, it was automatically set to “NO”, and that made none of my categories accessible.

So alas I have fixed this problem. I do have another question, though, closely tied to this: is there a way to make only certain categories accessible, while making all others not?</strong?

Would that have to be taken care of by specifically editing the category to be private?

I was hoping that maybe I could have had all categories automatically be private unless I edited it to BE public on the specific category page, but I don’t think that works with the “Make Categories Accessible” option turned to “NO” (as that’s what I was doing before). Any tips?

    Thanks again.

Thank you, I just saw your reply now and will test it out. I’m not sure what version of UM I have, but I believe it’s the most recent, for I haven’t gotten any update alerts from it and I just downloaded it last month. I will double check and make sure, though.

Thank you so much, yes this fixed the problem perfectly! ^_^

Would you mind explaining a briefly what the problem was and how that bit of css fixed it please? I’d like to understand the “theory”/concept behind it just in case I run into something similar in the future.

    Thanks again Siobhan!

    Hello!

I didn’t see your registration, so I made the site open for right now. Please let me know if you’re able to access the page now. Thank you!

Thank you for this! I’ve been looking everywhere on how to do this. I run a multi-author blog, and so having this feature will help immensely! I was wondering if there was a way to add the author’s profile photo with their name in the byline?

Also, NOTE: The file that you edit and paste the code into is your content.php file. I made the mistake of editing the singles.php file (as per older WordPress tutorials), and it turned all pages with posts completely blank. Yeah, scary.

    Thank you again!

    UNRESOLVED Hello, I’m back.

I’d marked this as “resolved” because I discovered that once I uninstalled the Toolset plugin, my WP Categories and Tags started working again. So I decided to just delete the plugin and find another one that wouldn’t mess up the WP pre-installed taxonomies.
But I found that the other plugins did not compare in functionality to Toolset, and I really want to continue using this plugin; as such, I’m re-marking this topic as UNRESOLVED, and if anyone can help me figure out how to fix this issue, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Thank you, yes I will open a ticket in the free Forum. I don’t have Toolset Views (I don’t believe), so that shouldn’t be a problem.

The link to the forum is asking me for login information, which I do not have. How would I go about creating an account on the free Forum? Thank you!

Thank you for the reply! No, the Add Post Type screen is working perfectly fine :/ Thanks for sharing the article, I checked it out and I’m still not sure why it’s not working, especially since all of the other pages on my site are working fine, even the other screens on the plug-in. It’s just the Taxonomies screen of the plugin that goes straight to a 504.

resolved: Alas, it was the Toolset Types plugin. I have no idea why it’s messing up my categories, so I shall have to ask Support from it’s developer’s page.

Help for this thread no longer needed.

Also, I tried goign directly to one of the posts on the front end and clicking on the category via the “Posted In” option, and the same problem persists :/ So the category is definitely linked to the post in that it’s showing up on the post, it’s just when you click on the category itself, nothing is showing up.
